Staining Canvas

Today’s Run:  3.56 miles (Watson Rd)

Began a new painting today.  My husband makes all my canvases for me, made to order~to size even.  Good deal for me~lots of work for him.  He is a good guy.

Anyway, he made me a new canvas, 24 x 18, for a painting of lots of foliage and some peonies.  It is a busy composition, lots of green stuff and very few actual flowers.  Let me explain.

I have a book with “directions”.  These directions introduce new painting techniques with little or no direction.  Such is the case with this painting.  The directions say, “Stain canvas.”.  Lovely.  Yes, I did Google “staining a canvas” before I began and kinda had a clue as to what I was doing.  So, I stained the canvas today.

You have to visualize, in your mind, the finished painting BEFORE you stain.  It will influence where you place the paint, what colors you use in different locations of the canvas, how dark to put the paint…so a little thought does goes into the painting before you even begin.

So, here is my stain.  Use your imagination.  Where is the source of the light? Where is the most dense foliage?  How in the world is this going to turn into a painting???  Stay tuned!
