Iowa Mississippi travel

Great White North

[Thursday PM: 3.0 on the treadmill; Saturday: 4.4 in crisp 17F Starkville]

We had a frigid week in Mississippi with the coldest bit being Tuesday into early Wednesday where we made a visit to the land of single digits.

That was preceded by about an inch of ice and snow. So we were pretty icy until Thursday.

Friday I connected with the people at MUW to retrieve my latest online auction purchase, the 1995 Ford Aerostar. It wouldn’t start and the tires were very low. So I got a towing company to bring it home. (On Saturday I put in a different battery and I was able to get it started. But I discovered the air intake tube has a crack in it, and the catalytic converter is completely missing. So I have some work to do to get it running right. I’m sure you will be hearing more about it.)

Today, Sunday, my long suffering wife was up well before dawn driving me to the airport. The flying went smoothly. My checked bag made a very quick connection in Atlanta and arrived when I did (thanks Delta!) My carry on bag was an ancient piece of luggage into which I had packed my work laptop and all of the wires and parts I use to do my work. They gave it some extra attention at TSA but it made the grade. Somewhere along the line the wheels started to have trouble so my hikes in Atlanta and in DSM were accompanied by screeches and thumps. I think the wheels have some chunks missing.

While we were getting single digits the folks in Iowa had a full scale blizzard with below-zero temps and a bunch of snow. Most of the roads have been cleared but there is a lot of snow piled up along the roads. Parking lots are navigable but bumpy with ice.

I spent the day with the family having a good lunch and a discussion concerning elder care and the schedule for the next few weeks. I plan to be in this spot at least until Saturday the 27th with a possible extension for a second week.

Tomorrow I hope to get my work site set up and put in a few hours for the boss.
