Francine

[Today’s run: 3.2 miles]

Hurricane Francine appears to be going north up the middle of the state and end up around Jonesboro, Arkansas. The forecast for us shows some cooling temperatures and rain starting tonight and going more or less steadily through the weekend.

They are saying it will be due west of us around midday tomorrow.

So it is a good time to snuggle down and just enjoy having a roof overhead.

The Monday night runs have been going well. After the first few weeks whoever was stealing our buckets apparently got their need satisfied. That hasn’t happened for a few weeks now. Last week we had to bump over to the east one block because our regular route was suffering some construction. But this past Monday it was back to the normal route. I think we might be able to do two more weeks, maybe three, and then the sunset will be interfering.

And about that time I will have to figure out when I’m going to be able to do my own runs also.

I don’t remember if I mentioned: I picked up an improved turntable. I now have three and it is definitely the best of the bunch. It is a Realistic LAB-440. The one flaw is that the lid hinges are broken. They will still go up and down but the spring loading is broken so I have to be a bit careful not to drop the lid. I need to figure out how to adjust the anti-skate and weighting. I think it is a little bit light, skips a bit too easy.

I had seen an even more fancy Pioneer model at a yard sale in Meridian, but they wanted too much for it and the suspension feet were broken and some were missing. I later learned that you can remake the suspension feet with a 3-d printer. So their price probably wasn’t that far out of line but it was too rich for me.

I’m using the Fisher tube amp and my Klipsh Kg2 speakers which I’ve had since 1986 (?). I like the way it all sounds. My hearing isn’t that good anyway to be honest.

Speaking of defects, I was noticing some dramatic halo effects when I drove home in the dark a couple of weeks ago, from our fishing outing. Its the first time I had seen that.

After that one instance, I have not seen the halos again. So maybe there my contacts were contributing to the effect in some way. I don’t know.

My wife tells me the haloing is one of the signs of cataracts. I do frequently need a flashlight to see things in detail. I may need to get that procedure done in the next few months. I’m not looking forward to it except for the part about not having to wear contacts any more.

My cataracts didn’t arrive in the form of haloing, rather they took on the broken glass effect. If I was driving at night and headlights were coming at me, I had to look at the edge of the road. Otherwise the light refraction completely blinded me.
My eye doctor did a great job.
