[Today’s run: 3.2 miles on Watson Road]
I’m writing this at a desk in my room at an airBnB house in Greenwood, MS.
After work today we had dinner and watched some TV, then we went to Dick’s Sporting Goods in town and I bought some summer pants. After that we stopped by the gym for our early-in-the-week workout.
After we got home from that I packed up my stuff for a two day trip to the lovely cotton fields of the Mississippi Delta.
Tomorrow morning I’m supposed to meet some John Deere people here in Greenwood. We will drive out to some fields and I’m supposed to help count leaves and bolls on cotton plants. I believe the data will be used to cross check some automated cotton counting device, although I don’t really know. I may find out tomorrow!
I had seen notice last spring on an all-company online notice system that they were looking for volunteers for various ag-related fieldwork projects. This one happened to be in Mississippi and at a time I could take a couple of days off. So here I am.
We went to Dicks because I don’t really have any lightweight pants for warmer weather. When it gets hot here I usually wear shorts. But for the field work they wanted me to wear pants. So I went and bought some.
The house I’m staying at is in an older part of town. The room I’m in is on the bottom floor and probably was a parlor of some sort. The ceiling is very high. There is a sizeable transom above the door and maybe 2 feet of wall above the transom. So… I suppose the wall must be about 10 feet high. There is a nice queen size bed, a sofa and chair, this desk and desk chair, and a couple of dressers, a book case, a coffee table. I would say it’s about 12′ x 15′ in floor dimensions. The walls are stucco and the floor is old, narrow hardwood with visible nail heads (I’ve never seen that style before. Check out that three nail pattern where board ends meet. And the boards are very very long. None of that little piece little piece little piece stuff.)

Two nights here was cheaper than driving in early in the morning, staying one night at the Hampton Inn where the other work folks are staying. I’m supposed to meet them there at 7 am.
I probably should quit doing this and go to bed.
