Short Truck – continued

[Yesterday: 3.1 miles, hill workout in Columbus]

The fuel pump arrived today and I installed it after work.

I used the long truck to start the short truck (since it doesn’t have a battery).  I had to jumper the starter relay with a screwdriver.  But it did start and it ran fine.  Yes, a running vehicle will continue to run without a battery.   I put 5 gallons of gas in the tank and let it idle for awhile.  I tried to move it backward a bit and then forward.  It did not want to go into reverse.  Forward seemed OK.  I’m going to run it again tomorrow and then check the level of transmission fluid.  The transmission looks like it leaks, so maybe it is just low on fluid.

1 – no battery  $100
2 – new starter relay $20 ?  or maybe it’s the ignition switch?
3 – reverse problems (transmission fluid? If not, this is a killer)
4 – passenger side door problems
5 – holes in bed
6 – lots of dirt

I don’t know if I can fix all of that.  I was telling the wife, at least now I could drive it to the scrap yard if I had to.

I agree 100% with Jon,

1 – the cheapest one at the autozone should be super

2 – if its the switch you can use a screwdriver like the car thieves

3 – cleaning the screens of the transmission might do the trick for small $$. Otherwise, you’re stuck going to McDonald’s or Chick-fil-A instead of Sonic.

4 – if the dog can jump through the window it doesn’t seem like this is a problem

5 – a sheet of exterior treated plywood?

6 – its a truck
