Warm again and radio thoughts

[Thursday: 3.5 miles; today a hot 5 miles with lots of walking]

We had the joy of having the young Dykstra couple in town just passing through.  They came in last night.  We had a dinner and talked a bit.  Then they were off in the morning on their way to Des Moines and then home to Colorado.  They had flown to Florida to pick up a vehicle, new to them, and were driving home.

The weather has warmed up again.  I haven’t looked at the high today but I believe it was around 90-F.  We were late doing our Saturday morning run and didn’t get out until well after 9 AM.  We roasted.  I did well on the first half then completely wilted on the way back.  So I may  have gotten in 3 miles of running out of the 5 miles total distance.

The Lowndes County ham club was operating today from a local park.  I had the pleasure of driving over and visiting a little bit.  They are an active group, probably the most active the club has been in a long time.

I also picked up some more insulation and materials for the transmitter shed.  I spoke to a man about digging the trenches for me which are needed to get the power to the shed and get a fiber-optic network cable from the house to the shed.  I’m not sure I like his estimate.  Maybe I’ll do it myself or see about renting a trenching machine.  As you’ll recall, I have some 4×4 posts between the house and the radio tower which hold up my various feed lines and such.  My goal is to eventually get all of that out of there.  I’d like to do everything by remote control over the network with the FM transmitter and probably my ham transmitters in the shack.  The FM transmitter for 100% sure.  We’ll see about the ham stuff.

Between the visit to the ham club bunch and a new QST magazine I received today, I’m actually kind of excited to get back to doing something on the ham radios.  I need to make a burst and get this shed project done.
