Vining

[Today’s run: 12 miles, yesterday 3 miles]

We have been enjoying the pergola that we built last year.

Eventually, we hope to have vine-ing plants cover the top to provide more shade.  And to that end we planted a “chocolate vine” at each of the four external posts (away from the house).

On the advice of the landscaper, we put some heavy cotton string from the base of the posts to the rafters overhead.  And we have been watching the vines head for the top.

Two of them are about head high already. Another was just a twig when we planted it and it is already about 2 feet up.  The last one has been confused and putting out runners on the ground.  I took the runners and wrapped them around the strings.  We shall see if that does the job.

This kind of growth doesn’t surprise me.  Every growing thing  in Mississippi is on a mission to take over the world.  And it would except that either 1) animals eat it, 2) people mow it, or 3) other plants are in the way.
