Mowing, and tree rings

[Today’s run:  5 x 400 with walk-backs each time]

I was doing some mowing today.

Sometimes I try to stick to straight lines.  But today I did a combination of straight lines and circles around the major obstacles.   Doing that makes a ripple-out pattern.  The ripples from the various obstacles form together and eventually you get the whole yard mowed.  (It is probably not the most efficient way to do it.)

But that reminded me of trees as they grow around fence wires, nails and other impediments.  The bark just kind of goes around them and the circles of growth rings incorporate the obstacle and keeps going.

Reminded me of life.  I think that I’m trying to make something straight, but what ends up happening is that I just layer on  over the past.  Like mowing around the trees in big circles, the circles interact and the thing takes on a strange shape as it goes.  Eventually the whole yard gets mowed.
