Attic time

[yesterday’s run: 6+ miles, some walking]

After running club yesterday, I came home and worked on another project.  Our son came over and helped me.

When we had guests stay for the graduation I had moved my little office space to the back of the house in the room we call the solarium.  That worked out pretty well except that I had no wired network connection in there, it was always wifi.  So the project was to get up in the attic and run some network cable from the utility closet to the solarium.

You may recall that a couple of years ago we had insulation sprayed into the attic.  I haven’t done any large attic projects since then.  I wanted to keep it un-mushed as much as possible, and it is hard to get around up there when you can’t see the joists to walk on.

But I climbed up and we got it done.  I had a piece of wood that I used to search for the joists and solid spots.  Getting the cable up from the utility room was fairly easy because there is a rope in place for that purpose.  One just tapes the cable to the middle of the rope in the utility room, then pull it up.  The ends of the rope are attached so that I don’t pull it all up.

After a little head scratching, we figured where we needed to go down and I clambered to that spot and drilled a couple of holes in the double top plate of the kitchen/solarium divider wall.  It took us a while to figure out which ‘bay’ of the wall I was in.  But it all turned out good and we got the network jack mounted and the wires punched in at the closet end.

Then we put together a temporary table and moved my home PC and set up the work PC on that.   So my real office and ham radio room is now mostly vacated, given over to the FM radio station’s noisy transmitter and other equipment.  I’m still pondering how I can get that moved external to the house!

I haven’t posted a picture for awhile.  Last Sunday afternoon I took a boat-rowing trip on the Tombigbee river. Here’s a shot of the US-82 bridges from below.
