[Monday run: 3.2 miles; Wednesday run: 3.2 miles]
We decided that with all the running we are doing pretty well with aerobic fitness. But both of us are needing some upper body exercise.
So last week we started going to the gym.
We went twice last week and twice this week. It looks like it will be a Monday evening / Thursday evening thing.
We signed up for an 18 month pre-paid plan.
So far we have been using the machines for arms, shoulders, abs and back.
This isn’t our first gym rodeo. A couple of years into our marriage we joined a gym. This was in Chicago and before the kids came along. We lived in an apartment building and this place opened up nearby. It involved a complicated contract to join. Later when we moved to the suburbs and had kids we were able to unload it on another guy through their transfer clause. So it actually turned out ok financially. (Looking on google maps, it seems it still is a gym but these days it is called LA Fitness. I don’t remember what it was called before but it wasn’t that. Kind of interesting since that would have been about 35 years ago!)
And over time we have been connected to YWCA, YMCA, and a place in Estes Park which no longer exists.
I’ve made some progress on the helicopter project. We have decided that making it a chicken coop just wasn’t going to work. So I used the angle grinder to take out the fuel bladder and the sawzall to take out the plastic windshields. It is now ready to go to the metals recycle place in town. I need to arrange with the neighbor to borrow his trailer and get it loaded up.
It is interesting because they are building a big aluminum foundry place about 10 miles from here, right next to the Severstal/SDI steel plant. We currently get a lot of barge and truck traffic bringing in scrap steel and expect to see a lot of aluminum start to come in.
So I hope I can get my money back out of the aluminum of the helicopter body. It is actually made out of a honeycomb sandwich of aluminum from 1/2 to 3/4 inches thick in most places. The body may weigh 300-400 lbs.
