Today’s Run: 50 min. lifting at the “Y”
My Sister has been encouraging me to begin painting portraits. I have been painting since 2003 in oils but just doing landscapes and still life…stuff like that. Well, lately my Sister has decided that I need to expand my horizons and learn to paint portraits. Easier said than done.
The first thing you need in painting portraits is a person. It is not easy to find someone who will willingly let you paint a picture of them. They either have to sit very still for a very long time or they have to let you take a photograph of them and use that for reference. Most people do not like the idea of either alternative~they are funny that way.
The second thing you need is to know where to begin and that is where I am having my problem. My Sister gave me a ton of pictures of her kids so I immediately picked out the easiest one. Now what? Your guess is a good as mine. I read books and watched YouTube tutorials and they made it look easy.
It is NOT easy! I have been working on a painting of one of my nephews and yes, it looks like a little boy, kinda lopsided but yes, it looks like a little boy. Does it look like my nephew? Nope! Not even close.
