In the groove

[Most recent run was Saturday, 5 miles on the trails in Meridian]

I’ve been keeping up with my running, three times a week. The evening runs are starting to get kind of dodgy for schedule because of the shrinking daylight. I have not yet figured a way to run from the office.

Speaking of the office, I took one of our lesser kitchen chairs to the office a week or two ago. The cushy office chair wasn’t working for me. And I have been enjoying the wooden chair. But it made quite an impression on the security guard, a man about my age. He still asks me how I like that chair.

Work is going OK. I finally met the guy I am replacing. He came in to the office for two days last week. He brought along a 2TB hard drive with about 500 GB of historical source code and tools on it. So that in itself provides a bit of answers.

My project right now is to get a dsPIC to talk to a small OLED display and it is not working the way it should. I’m kind of mystified about it. I hope to get it sorted out.

The house is slowly coming into some kind of shape. I still have a lot of untouched boxes in the garage car-port area though.

This past weekend I was able to get the last of the vehicles rounded up and the old sailboat. I hope to go get the lawn mower in a week or two.

Church is going well. The people are very nice to us and we enjoy the preaching and the music. It is a small place. First Presbyterian of Taylorsville. I don’t think they have a website.

The ducks are settled into their new pen. About a third of it is under the deck so they have some shelter from predator birds and rough weather. Ducks kind of like rainy weather. We are getting 5-7 eggs every day so we are giving away duck eggs to anyone that shows an interest. The neighbor across the way wanted some to incubate. I will be interested to hear how that goes.

We had a little excitement in the banking arena. The little community bank that we started using while in Dubuque was gobbled up by a multi-state conglomeration and somehow the direct deposit information that worked for the first three paychecks didn’t work last week. So I have been sorting that out. It looks like we had a typo in the account number and maybe the little company had a procedure to match it up close enough (or something) which the new people don’t do. I believe I have provided the right info now to my employer and that will soon be coming through.

There’s a thing where providing the “fudge” to get things accomplished leads to a misunderstanding that they will always get accomplished. I recently ran into that same theme in the automobile department. My battery ground clamp in the aerostar was a mess and I had been getting by ok. The thing starts right up like it wants to get to work. But the other day, dark of night, two lane rural Mississippi roads, and my headlights started getting dimmer and dimmer. Eventually the speedometer died and the vehicle had trouble continuing to run. I coasted into the only sizeable community on that route, feeling very lucky that I made it that far. I had a tow truck take me on from there. But some wiggling of that ground clamp and it all comes back as if nothing happened! Suddenly I remembered that was an issue with this car. So last night after supper I spent some quality time getting that clamp sorted out.

I watch a car repair YouTube channel where the guy frequently says, “It’s only temporary, unless it works.” Yeah, that can get you in all sorts of trouble.
