A quieter week

[Tuesday run: 3.2 miles; Thursday: 3.2 miles; Saturday: 4.2 miles]

This last week was quiet, back to our normal schedule. I did have a little bit of time away from work to go to the optometrist so I had to make up a couple of hours on Saturday. But I got my 40 in and the week was fairly productive.

At the optometrist they told me my eyes had not changed and my general eye health is holding steady. When I’m not wearing my contacts I wear some glasses that are at least probably close to ten years old. So on this trip I decided to get some replacements.

I’m happy with my contacts for daily wear. I complement those with readers of different strengths depending on whether I am doing computer work or closer work/reading. That seems to be working pretty well for me.

I’ve been doing a short Youtube livestream each morning. My goal was to fill in for a guy who was hit and miss. But he didn’t do any this last week so I was on every morning. I rarely have any live participants. If it stays that way I probably won’t go on for a long time. My intention is that it be a time and place for people from the Friday Morning Nameless channel to meet on those days when he does not get on. I’m getting a little bit of that, but not enough to call it success.

So far it is easier than trying to write a blog post. I have a little pattern to follow and I haven’t run out of steam quite yet.

I haven’t given up on the blogging though. I’m still figuring it out.

For the streaming, I was able to get that hamfest Sony camera working pretty well. It is not really good in low light, but that actually gives me what I want. I can turn on just my task light on the desk and everything behind me is in the dark. It also has an acceptable autofocus, so it keeps my face in focus well. The physical mounting is wonky and I have it working but it could use some improvement.

The camera is analog video, it goes through a device which turns that into hdmi and then I have an hdmi to usb thing which gets me into my laptop. I had trouble trying to find an analog to usb device that would get me there directly.

For audio I am using a Focusrite Scarlett device and an audio-technica mic on a boom which looks like it is really for a desk lamp. The Scarlett manages the analog connected mic and turns that into usb which connects to the computer. This particular model would also let a person connect a second mic or an instrument. So this one little box is set up for like an all-in-one for a singer/instrumentalist.
