[Today’s run 3.2 miles]
You may recall that sometime last year we bought a sailboat and then we had a bit of a minor tragedy while bringing it home which resulted in damage to the fiberglass hull.
After sitting for a year, I finally decided to outsource the repair. And that has now been completed. The boat is on the trailer in our yard and it looks pretty good.
The plan for this thing is to use it for rowing on the Tombigbee and similar bodies of water.
It is originally a sailboat. It has a removable keel and rudder. It has a mast and sail. But our plan is to just row. The beauty of it is that I can provide motive power with the oars while the boss can sit in the back and steer with the rudder. Or so we imagine.
I hope we can take it out for a trial run sometime yet this fall.

Boats are great! Personally, when I take the canoe or kayak out on the water using the dock outside my window, I am in tidewater – the same level as the ocean. I am _in_ the ocean – which means I am connected with all the water in all the oceans that cover the earth. When we are on solid land we are connected to all the continents, but it is interrupted by water. The water connects across the planet. It is impractical (impossible!) to canoe across oceans – but the connection is there. The emotions that emerge when in the water can be overwhelming – moreso with the kayak when _in_ the water and can touch the water without reaching much at all. And the water moves with the sun and moon – the influence of large bodies that we orbit or that orbit us. These influences affect everyone no matter where they are but with the water we can _see_ it and experience it in a more obvious manner. It’s almost too much, but in a good way.
That is a beautiful image! I’m sorry I have been so slow recently and kept that comment from being published for so long.
