I’m making some progress on my front porch project. The cat seems to approve.
We bought these columns 2nd hand about a year ago. I finally have one up. I had to pour some concrete to get some solid surface under the whole base.
I hope to eventually fill in that square of grass on the left completely. But for now, need a strip of concrete on the right side and I can put the other columns up.

You may have started down a slippery slope. Our porch has columns somewhat like that and they look almost as nice as yours will soon. But I constantly look at the porch and think “I really need to build some planters and keep them refreshed with annual flowers.” And who knows where that will lead.
