Door ding

[today’s run: 3.5 miles]

While I was working on the truck on Saturday I had occasion to need some stuff from the auto parts store.  So I drove the Lexus to the auto parts store.  When I came out there was a big door ding on the passenger side.  It was kind of ironic that I’d be getting parts to fix the old beater truck and in so doing get a gash in the only car I’m trying to keep nice!

Today I took it to the auto body place and they said it would most likely exceed the deductible to fix.  So then I called the insurance and got a claim started.  I’m supposed to take the car in next Monday and have it worked on.

Cars are like most things in life, a slow downward slide from new to junk.

The other car thing happening this week is an appointment for my son’s car to get the timing belt and other associated parts changed out.

If all goes well, by the end of next week we will be a bit ahead in the old car department but not have lost much ground in the newer car department.

Used to be cars had rubber strips on the doors at the mid section to mitigate dings. You can get those aftermarket but nobody does. My 1998 Saab was dark green and had black rubber strip on doors and bumpers from the factory. We recently replaced it with a 2013 Ford that has no such thing. It’s white all around – even at the obvious points of potential contact. Door ding and bumper scuff sure to follow. Several. (We always park at far end of the lot when shopping. Easier and safer and the bonus is extra exercise.)

Regardless, I’d ask the auto parts store if you could see their security video. Especially if you know the color of the car.
