Glad for a three day weekend

[today’s run/walk: 4 miles]

After a week of partial sleep deprivation, I was just kind of tired this morning and didn’t get as far as I usually do with the running group.  Fortunately there is a guy a bit older than me recovering from a fall in early March and he was doing a run/walk as his first move back into running.  So I was able to go with him!  And I very much enjoyed the conversation.  (Usually he is much faster than I am!)

After returning home, the wife and I went to a household auction over in Alabama.  We picked up a very nice sofa and an old console radio.  And both were very inexpensive.

So now we have a sofa again from which to watch TV in the evening.  And we have a 1960’s era Magnavox AM/FM/phono console (model 1ST280) to enliven the guest room a bit.  (It says “solid state” but the whole output amplifier is tubes.  We like tubes.)

I looked up an old ad for this model, as the only thing I can remember about consoles is they weigh a ton if they have a tv in them. In 1959 they were selling new ones for less than $200. It’s kind of amazing what inflation does. I guess that’s also what happens when our paper money is tied to thin air.

When growing up, I thought color TV was for rich people. Anything larger than 18″ was considered huge. Now most folks have TV’s larger than the oven and resolution shows blood vessels in the skin (or layers of pancake makeup). Not to mention more than one TV in the house
