Remote Control

[Today’s run: 3.4 miles]

I have a requirement to be able to get into my home network while I am out of town.  Mostly this is because I need to be able to turn off the radio station transmitter if something goes wrong.  But I would also like to be able to do the programming/play-list stuff remotely.

My wifi router supports something called dynamic DNS, so I was looking into that.  But to do that I need to have a “public” IP address and not an internal-only one.  So I have a question in to the tech support folks to see if I can do that, what it will take.

We actually have two ISP services at our house now, both for increased usage and for redundancy.  The 2nd ISP does have a “public” IP address, so I can use dynamic DNS with that one.

I have also ordered a box which is supposed to let us have both ISP services come into our home network and the box will do load balancing between the two and handle fail-over if one of them dies.
