TenTec Omni-D VFO trouble

[today’s run: rest day]

I bought this TenTec Omni D last summer off of E-Bay.  This model of radio has a good reputation and I have been enjoying it very much.

It has a problem which is annoying and may be getting worse.  The frequency display will show small jumps of frequency, 1-2 kHz, up and down, when I am not even touching the dial.  And it appears that it effects both the receiving and transmitting frequencies.

This morning I popped off the top and bottom covers and reseated all of the circuit boards.  I was hoping that it might be a dirty connection of some type.  But it was still doing it this afternoon.

Now I think it is probably something wrong with the VFO itself.

TenTec will still work on these older radios and I could send it in to them.  First, I think I will do some more web research and maybe call their service department.

I have my turn coming up to be  the “fox” on some of the QRP Foxhunt operations.  I may have to revert to the Century 21 to do that task.  We shall see.
