[Today’s run: 3.4 miles]
After going to Iowa and back the weekend of the 18th/19th/20th, this last weekend I took Friday off again and we went down to Jackson, MS for the Big Butts 50k.
My wife has been training for this race for a long time. I told her it was crazy to run a 50k ultra-marathon race in July in Mississippi.
Well, it certainly was warm and humid, as one would expect. But she turned out to be crazy like a fox. Of the 88 starters, a whole bunch dropped out because of the heat and general misery. She ended up finishing in a bit over 10 hours and got 2nd place in her age division! That’s a great start to a career in ultras!
Her sister and family came down to Jackson also and helped cheer her in to the finish. That made it a very special event.
(I clap and cheer a bit, but not like she deserves.)
Next up for her is the Chicago Marathon this October.
