Neural, knurl

[Today’s run: 3.1 miles]

A guy at work was talking about his work on a neural net, which is a digital network used for machine learning. It does a form of learning without an actual brain.

That is different from a knurled nut which is a mechanical nut that can be loosened and tightened by hand; wrenching without an actual wrench.

It seems like those words should sound slightly different. Maybe some people say the neu more like “new”.

Knurl comes from gnarl like a gnarled old tree. I think I read that on wikipedia. I wonder who swapped the k and g?
