I think Mississippi holds state-wide primary voting on March 12.

Politics in Mississippi is not really competitive for the national jobs. The political parties seem to be strongly in control of their offerings most of the time.
Our primary being buried in the back end of the calendar is just a thing. Iowa is first. Mississippi isn’t. Which means that the people in Iowa get to see a year’s worth of political ads on TV while us in Mississippi can assume the big shot people have already worked out what the answer will be. Or something like that.
Now… local politics is another story. I remember a few years ago a guy in the outs party spent some spare change to put himself on the ballot for governor. He won the primary, so the guy was their nominee. And he ended up with 32% of the vote.
So we have our own version of political fun.
