DD is for down/down

[Today’s run: maybe this afternoon]

My usual schedule is to work away from home for a couple of hours three days a week while my wife is at the gym.

My recent favorite place has been Beans & Cream in the Brickertown shopping plaza.  But this week they have been all dark and a sign in the window says they are closed and looking to sell out.  Bummer.  So the last two occasions I have gone to Dunkin’ Donuts on Hwy 45.  But, their wifi has been down for two times now.

This morning I went in, bought my two donuts and milk, tried to get on the wifi and failed.  I went back up to the counter and told the woman that their Internet was down.  She said, “It work when it wanna work.  We’ve restarted it.”  And that was the end of that.  So I have fired off a comment on the DD website contact form.  Maybe they will get someone to fix it.  Or maybe I’ll have to find a different place.  (The donuts at DD are not very good anyway, and too expensive.)

I do sympathize with fast-food help when it comes to wifi.  There is really not much they can do.  In the DD case, I was getting connected to the local wifi box but did not get an IP address assignment.  That may be the local box, or it could be a problem upstream somewhere, wherever the DHCP server is.  So it could be a local ISP or it could be some kind of corporate IT problem.  Who knows?  What I do know is that the failure looks bad for the store and it disrupts what I want to do.  And a shrug-off response is not quite enough.
