Carmel Convent and back home.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a lovely, easy run and one I look forward to each week.<\/p>\n<p>The Convent is located on the bluffs of the Mississippi River in Dubuque, Iowa. It&#8217;s a beautiful setting!\u00a0 Over the *almost* a year MFH (My Favorite Husband) and I have lived here, I&#8217;ve been honored to meet, walk with and get to know many of the Sisters during my Monday morning miles.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?attachment_id=6160\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6160\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6160\" src=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Mount_Carmel_-_Dubuque_Iowa_03.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"188\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re not here to discuss the Convent, though.\u00a0 We&#8217;re going to chat about something that happened late this past winter that tickled me.\u00a0 Although some of this story is imaginary, parts of it are very true!\u00a0 Our saga begins with a pickle&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Y&#8217;all know I find the strangest things on my runs.\u00a0 Almost every run there&#8217;s some oddity that catches my eye and this run was no different.\u00a0 I was running past these two houses.\u00a0 One of the neighbors was out shoveling and I had greeted them with a &#8220;Good morning!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s when I saw it.<\/p>\n<p>There was a pickle!\u00a0 It was one of those large pickles you can buy from a convenience store-you know the ones, they come in that little plastic bag?\u00a0 This pickle was outside of the bag AND it had a huge bite taken from it.\u00a0 Someone had tossed it carelessly on the ground, actually in the road right next to the curb.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?attachment_id=6161\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6161\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6161\" src=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/81fuq3PkcSL._SL1500_.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"833\" height=\"1500\" srcset=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/81fuq3PkcSL._SL1500_.jpg 833w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/81fuq3PkcSL._SL1500_-167x300.jpg 167w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/81fuq3PkcSL._SL1500_-768x1383.jpg 768w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/81fuq3PkcSL._SL1500_-569x1024.jpg 569w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/81fuq3PkcSL._SL1500_-624x1124.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 833px) 100vw, 833px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I looked up at the person shoveling and said, &#8220;There&#8217;s a pickle in the road!&#8221;\u00a0 I was astounded to see a pickle!\u00a0 I mean, what are the odds of seeing a pickle laying next to the curb in the winter?<\/p>\n<p>The home owner looked at me and said, &#8220;It&#8217;s not on my property.\u00a0 It&#8217;s on THEIR property.\u00a0 Let THEM pick it up.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>My jaw dropped a mile.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?attachment_id=6162\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6162\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6162\" src=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/giphy-3.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"215\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Me being me, I stopped dead in my tracks because I couldn&#8217;t believe what I&#8217;d just heard, and said, &#8220;Seriously!?!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?attachment_id=6163\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6163\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6163\" src=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/download-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/download-2.jpg 225w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/download-2-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The homeowner proceeded to show me where the property line was. The pickle was literally on the &#8220;property line.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m afraid I just couldn&#8217;t stand it. Maybe I was too far into my run to be thinking clearly?\u00a0 Whatever the reason, I reacted in a most uncharitable way and kinda nudged the pickle over to that person&#8217;s property.\u00a0 I was thinking, Dude!\u00a0 Just pick up the pickle!\u00a0 I mean, I would have picked it up if I wasn&#8217;t 5 miles from a trash can. I just couldn&#8217;t deal.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?attachment_id=6165\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6165\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6165\" src=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/giphy-5.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Look.\u00a0 I know it was wrong.\u00a0 I admit it!\u00a0 I&#8217;ve thought about sharing this many times but was too embarrassed to admit my childish response to the entire situation?\u00a0 So, that brings you up to date on me being a complete jerk.<\/p>\n<p>Now&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s look at the current situation and this is complete conjecture on my part.<\/p>\n<p>The house I&#8217;ve dubbed, &#8220;The Pickle House&#8221; is for sale!!!<\/p>\n<p>In my imagination, the pickle situation has turned into the Hatfield and McCoy&#8217;s and the Pickle House simply couldn&#8217;t take it any more.\u00a0 Their only recourse is to sell the house and move.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?attachment_id=6166\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6166\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6166\" src=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/105407216_1199512447071563_2433630517652592891_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"828\" height=\"621\" srcset=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/105407216_1199512447071563_2433630517652592891_n.jpg 828w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/105407216_1199512447071563_2433630517652592891_n-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/105407216_1199512447071563_2433630517652592891_n-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/105407216_1199512447071563_2433630517652592891_n-624x468.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 828px) 100vw, 828px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I know this is absolutely ridiculous.\u00a0 \u00a0I KNOW THIS but I giggle to myself every time I run past&#8230;thinking about that dumb pickle and property lines and the whole thing.<\/p>\n<p>Totally different story:<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s run brought back one of the happiest childhood memories I have.<\/p>\n<p>When I was a very little girl, we had a cherry tree in our back yard.<\/p>\n<p>Every day, right after lunch, my mom would lock my sister and myself out of the house to she could watch her soap operas.\u00a0 *I think these days if you locked your kids out of the house so you could watch TV would get the authorities called on you but this was the 1960&#8217;s and times have changed since then.<\/p>\n<p>I loved that cherry tree!\u00a0 We (my sister and I) would play and when we got hungry, we&#8217;d climb the tree and snack on the cherries.<\/p>\n<p>These weren&#8217;t the big sweet cherries you buy in the produce section of your grocery store.\u00a0 These were smaller cherries.\u00a0 They were tart and delicious!\u00a0 I just loved them!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?attachment_id=6167\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6167\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6167\" src=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/105770232_708997509936939_3572028282365138373_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/105770232_708997509936939_3572028282365138373_n.jpg 720w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/105770232_708997509936939_3572028282365138373_n-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/105770232_708997509936939_3572028282365138373_n-624x832.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Today I passed one of those trees on my run!\u00a0 Brought me to a dead halt.\u00a0 The memories flooded back.\u00a0 I could taste those cherries again.\u00a0 I remembered eating them and then seeing how far I could spit out the seeds.\u00a0 Fun times we had back then.<\/p>\n<p>It was a wonderful blast from the past.\u00a0 Fun laughing at myself at the &#8220;Pickle House&#8221;
