{"id":4311,"date":"2016-12-18T21:57:49","date_gmt":"2016-12-19T03:57:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?p=4311"},"modified":"2016-12-18T22:00:09","modified_gmt":"2016-12-19T04:00:09","slug":"uphill-both-ways","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?p=4311","title":{"rendered":"Uphill~Both Ways!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You&#8217;ve all heard the stories from the &#8220;Good ole&#8217; Days&#8221; how our forebears had to walk miles upon miles, through blizzards, wearing old flour sacks just to get to school. \u00a0The school was always a one room school house without a furnace. \u00a0The ice bucket was always frozen over and the story always ended with, &#8220;Uphill~Both ways!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Well, today&#8217;s run was kind of like that story.<\/p>\n<p>MFH (My Favorite Husband) and I spent the last two days (Friday and Saturday) driving home from Colorado. \u00a0We had a terrific visit with #1 Daughter and her #1 Fiance while we were there. \u00a0We celebrated Christmas with them. \u00a0#1 Daughter and I managed to do some serious shopping. \u00a0All in all it was a great time!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?attachment_id=4312\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4312\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4312\" alt=\"15541646_1176393152480819_3895631864805201871_n\" src=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/15541646_1176393152480819_3895631864805201871_n.jpg\" width=\"747\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/15541646_1176393152480819_3895631864805201871_n.jpg 747w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/15541646_1176393152480819_3895631864805201871_n-233x300.jpg 233w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 747px) 100vw, 747px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Friday morning, MFH and I loaded up the car and were driving east by 6:00am. \u00a0It was time to go home.<\/p>\n<p>Things were going great until we entered Kansas.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?attachment_id=4313\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4313\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4313\" alt=\"15542127_1177125855740882_1739545851698622736_n\" src=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/15542127_1177125855740882_1739545851698622736_n.jpg\" width=\"960\" height=\"682\" srcset=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/15542127_1177125855740882_1739545851698622736_n.jpg 960w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/15542127_1177125855740882_1739545851698622736_n-300x213.jpg 300w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/15542127_1177125855740882_1739545851698622736_n-422x300.jpg 422w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It was an overcast morning. The further we drove into the state, we noticed it getting foggy. \u00a0Then we had to start using the wipers because it was kind of drizzly. \u00a0We were traveling on I-70, which in the winter is always a dicy thing to do. \u00a0We got as far as Colby when there was a road block by the state Troopers. \u00a0We were forced to leave the road.<\/p>\n<p>We discovered that I-70 was iced over and they were shutting it down.<\/p>\n<p>MFH and I chatted and decided to travel the back roads and head south. \u00a0We were hoping to drive far enough south to get away from the ice.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?attachment_id=4314\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4314\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4314\" alt=\"15589619_1177199912400143_982079644615736733_n\" src=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/15589619_1177199912400143_982079644615736733_n.jpg\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" srcset=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/15589619_1177199912400143_982079644615736733_n.jpg 960w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/15589619_1177199912400143_982079644615736733_n-300x168.jpg 300w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/15589619_1177199912400143_982079644615736733_n-500x281.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was very slick for a while and the back end of our car wasn&#8217;t convinced that it wanted to stay on the road. \u00a0We crawled along and eventually got away from the ice. When we got home, the temps were in the upper 70&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>This morning, I got ready to run and it was barely 30* \u00a0I bundled up in ALL my cold weather running stuff and bounded out the door.<\/p>\n<p>Brrrr!!!<\/p>\n<p>I mean, BRRRR!!!<\/p>\n<p>It was raining. \u00a0I&#8217;ve run in the rain many times. \u00a0No big deal. \u00a0I figured I would warm up as I went along.<\/p>\n<p>I was wrong.<\/p>\n<p>The rain turned into freezing rain because the temps were dropping.<\/p>\n<p>Then it turned into sleet.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually it turned into snow flurries.<\/p>\n<p>I was not having fun.<\/p>\n<p>My ITBS was still crabby from the race last weekend.<\/p>\n<p>I was a sad, sad panda.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?attachment_id=4316\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4316\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4316\" alt=\"15027955_1144956172291184_6329176692566566193_n\" src=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/15027955_1144956172291184_6329176692566566193_n.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"334\" srcset=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/15027955_1144956172291184_6329176692566566193_n.jpg 500w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/15027955_1144956172291184_6329176692566566193_n-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/15027955_1144956172291184_6329176692566566193_n-449x300.jpg 449w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I managed to get to 10 miles before I cried, &#8220;Uncle!<\/p>\n<p>I was pretty upset with myself for a while. \u00a0I was thinking to myself, &#8220;Howard, it&#8217;s just a little rain! \u00a0Get over it!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>After draining the hot water tank in the shower, I went to put on my warmest clothes only to discover my lips were still blue. \u00a0LOL!!! \u00a0That&#8217;s pretty cold! \u00a0I cut myself some slack and told myself, &#8220;You DID manage double digits.
