May 14 you will find my kid sister and myself toe-ing the line for the Magnolia Meltdown. \u00a0This is a half marathon (and a 10K & 5K) in Ridgeland, Mississippi. \u00a0Gun time is 6:30 am. \u00a0Early o’clock. \u00a0It has to be early o’clock! \u00a0May in Mississippi the temps are already getting pretty toasty and if you don’t get an early start on things, you really do melt!<\/p>\n
This is going to be an exciting day for my sister. \u00a0This will be her very first Half Marathon! \u00a0I’m super excited for her!!!<\/p>\n
In the past, she’s done the odd 5K here and there and a few 10K’s but has been kind of spotty with her running. \u00a0This past year, she’s buckled down and gotten serious\/consistent. \u00a0She committed herself to doing a HM (Half Marathon) and the date is almost here!<\/p>\n
Now, we are not going to run it together. \u00a0She has given me strict instructions to run my race. \u00a0My pace. \u00a0She’ll run her race. \u00a0Her pace. \u00a0After asking a zillion times, she has assured me that this is exactly what she wants….AND I’m supposed to finish enough ahead of her to get a finish line pic of her.<\/p>\n
I’ll do my best on that last part. \u00a0LOL!!!<\/p>\n
About a month ago, registration for the Mississippi Blues Marathon opened. \u00a0The race made a big hoo-rah about it. \u00a02017 will be the 10th anniversary for this race and they want to do it up big! \u00a0So….<\/p>\n
When they opened registration, they said that the first 100 people who signed up would be able to run the marathon for $10.00. \u00a0Yup. \u00a0Ten bucks for a full! \u00a0That’s a pretty good deal!<\/p>\n
So, when the registration time arrived, my sister and a whole bunch of other Mississippi runners, were parked by their laptops trying to get in for the $10.00. \u00a0My sister made it! \u00a0Bells and Whistles to her!!!<\/p>\n
Next January, she will be running her first full as well! \u00a0BOOM!<\/p>\n
I am a sad panda in that I won’t be able to run “The Blues” in 2017. \u00a0I have a 100 miler first weekend of February and The Blues is too close to race day for me to be able to run. \u00a0My sister has asked me to volunteer and request to work the finish line so I can see her finish her first full. \u00a0You know that I am going to do that, right!? \u00a0Wouldn’t miss it for the world!!!<\/p>\n
