{"id":3678,"date":"2016-02-01T17:40:42","date_gmt":"2016-02-01T23:40:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?p=3678"},"modified":"2016-02-01T17:40:42","modified_gmt":"2016-02-01T23:40:42","slug":"runners-feet-are-beautiful-feet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?p=3678","title":{"rendered":"Runner&#8217;s Feet Are Beautiful Feet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Runners get the reputation of having the ugliest feet ever.<\/p>\n<p>When a person begins running you have &#8220;normal&#8221; feet. \u00a0By normal, I mean that you have 10 toenails and they all are a nice regular toenail color \u00a0Probably no blisters. \u00a0If you&#8217;re a woman, you probably paint your toenails with polish and maybe get pedicures at regular intervals.<\/p>\n<p>Once a person begins running it is not at all uncommon to be sporting blisters, callouses, and possibly a black toenail (or two).<\/p>\n<p>If you become super serious about your running and by that I mean training for marathon distances (or farther), you will probably be kissing those toenails good-by. \u00a0Those black toenails will decide they&#8217;ve had enough and fall off. \u00a0The ones that stick around turn black from bruising (usually they eventually bite the dust, too). \u00a0Most women give up on the pedicures and if they DO paint their toenails, they are painting the skin on the ends of their toes. \u00a0They are vainly trying to give people the illusion that they actually HAVE toenails where none exist.<\/p>\n<p>Most non-runners find these feet ugly. \u00a0I think they&#8217;re beautiful! \u00a0Those feet tell stories of dedication. \u00a0Of hitting the road in the early hours of the day and squeezing in their training miles before heading off to work. \u00a0They are testimonials of road races, trail races, PR&#8217;s, triumphs over personal demons! \u00a0They are proof that you CAN achieve what others told you was impossible!<\/p>\n<p>Why am I going on and on about runners feet? \u00a0I thought you&#8217;d never ask!<\/p>\n<p>About a year ago, I wrote a blog about a running friend of mine. \u00a0She&#8217;s an amazing woman and I admire her a great deal. \u00a0I&#8217;ll just summarize about her:<\/p>\n<p>My friend just turned 69 years old. \u00a0She was diagnosed with RA (Rheumatoid Arthritis) in her mid 40&#8217;s. \u00a0At that time, she was THE up and coming runner in our area. \u00a0She was THE person everybody was out to beat. \u00a0Not just AG (Age Group) awards but Overall winner awards. \u00a0She was just amazing!<\/p>\n<p>Then the RA struck.<\/p>\n<p>Did she give up? \u00a0NO! \u00a0She kept on running.<\/p>\n<p>She saw her finishing times get slower and slower but doggone it, she was still out there pounding the pavement and running races. \u00a0She always had a kind word of encouragement for everybody out there.<\/p>\n<p>So, at 69 years old, she is still running full marathons (26.2 miles)!<\/p>\n<p>*I had somebody suggest to me, somebody who also has a friend with RA, \u00a0that my friend doesn&#8217;t have a &#8220;bad case&#8221; of RA. \u00a0I beg to differ.<\/p>\n<p>My friend is now doing IV treatments every other week to help with her RA. \u00a0It is about the only option available to her. \u00a0She goes with a smile on her face and an uplifting word for all at the Dr&#8217;s office. \u00a0She has no cartilage in her ankles, feet or toes. \u00a0She is always in pain. \u00a0She accepts this with grace and then goes out and run a few more miles.<\/p>\n<p>She is the first to admit that it gets her down sometimes but she also know that as soon as she stops~as soon as she says, &#8220;It&#8217;s too much,&#8221; she will &#8220;lose it.&#8221; \u00a0She knows that to be able to be active, she has to make herself STAY active.<\/p>\n<p>This brings us back to beautiful feet. \u00a0THESE are the feet of my friend. \u00a0These are the feet that carry her mile after mile after mile. \u00a0#MuchRespect #BeautifulFeet<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?attachment_id=3679\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3679\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3679\" alt=\"943904_1241818962514820_1575661315532453616_n\" src=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/943904_1241818962514820_1575661315532453616_n.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/943904_1241818962514820_1575661315532453616_n.jpg 720w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/943904_1241818962514820_1575661315532453616_n-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Runners get the reputation of having the ugliest feet ever.
