The. Button.

I had on reflective gear with blinking lights. With the rain, I needed to be seen. My long sleeved blue shirt (from my first marathon in 2013) had reflective stuff on it, too. I headed out with all the lights blinking. I looked like a blue running Christmas tree. Sorta?

Let’s discuss logging trucks for a second. All the road I was on today have a 55 MPH speed limit. For some strange reason, the overloaded logging trucks seem to think they are above this law. ZOOM! ZOOM!! ZOOM!!! One was going so fast it literally blew me backwards! For the most part, though, the motorists were very nice and moved over to the far lane so as not to crowd me. I was waaaayyy over on the far shoulder of the highway but they were polite. I really didn’t encounter any major trouble.

Once I was on the frontage road, MFH stopped by to check on me. The first time he drove our white pick up truck. That thing is noisy and it about scared me to death! I was super focused on what I was doing that when MFH slowed along side of me and started talking to me I jumped a mile! It was pretty funny! He had brought me some water even though I was wearing my new hydration vest (which is totally awesome btw!). The vest would carry the kitchen sink if I wanted it to! Pretty cool beans thing!

Each bottle holds 10 oz. There are tons of pockets for gels and whatever you want to stick in there. It has room for a bladder to hold more liquid if you want. Right now because the weather isn’t uber hot, I’m making due with just the bottles. MFH wanted to make sure I didn’t get dehydrated. That was sweet! 🙂

Later on, during my return run from the exit for the airport, MFH make another pass to check on me. This time Paxton got to come, too! Paxton was sitting in the back seat and he thought he was a luck dog. Paxton cracks me up! MFH came with more water and Advil! Advil was my friend today. I had forgotten some before my run and I was feeling every step. I took two.

During this second stop, we were close to a business called, “Granite Guys.” One of the men who worked there saw me stopped along side our car. He hopped into a business pickup and drove down their driveway and pulled up along side of me. He asked if everything was okay. I assured him it was and that I was just getting some Advil and water. He seemed relieved and drove back up to his business. That was nice! I don’t know if he thought I was getting mugged or what the deal was. It was just nice that he went out of his way to check things out.

There is a Chevron gas station on this route. It is at a large intersection where I turn from the 2 lane highway onto the 4 lane highway. On my return, I stopped and bought a Coke. A real Coke. Not a Diet Coke. I also wanted something salty. I had lost a lot of sodium on this run but they didn’t have any salty snacks. I thought that was strange. I bought a 20 oz Coke and downed a lot of it. That gave me some energy for the last 5 miles. As a matter of fact, those last 5 miles were negative splits! BOOM!

Finally got home. I hadn’t pushed my pace. 4.5 hrs it took me to run the 22 miles. 12:19 pace. Not great but considering I had take my own sweet time, not awful either!

After cooling off, taking a shower and beautifying, MFH and I went out for dinner to celebrate his birthday! Happy Birthday MFH!!! Here is the FB post I put up for him today:

A Huge Happy Birthday to the man of my dreams, MFH (My Favorite Husband).
