Every year, our running group holds a New Year’s Day party at 12:00 (noon o’clock). \u00a0I think it is at noon because it gives the people who partied the night before a mini chance to recovery before we all get together.<\/p>\n
Yesterday, we had a huge turnout! \u00a0We had about 75 adults and a bunch of little kids there. \u00a0Everybody comes to this event.<\/p>\n
Every year, the people who host, rent a big inflatable jumping house for the “sprouts” to go and play on. \u00a0They kids have a ball! \u00a0You can hear them laughing and shrieking inside~the “little’s” have a great time.<\/p>\n
Inside, you will find a group of runners of all shapes and sizes, talking about their upcoming races. \u00a0What their running goals will be for the new year. \u00a0They will be discussing shoes. \u00a0Training…<\/p>\n
And they will be eating! \u00a0Runners can put away an amazing amount of food!!!<\/p>\n
We all arrive, our food offering of the day in hand (it is a covered dish event) and lay everything out on a few tables. \u00a0We go and get a glass of wine or a beer and start talking.<\/p>\n
It is fun!<\/p>\n
So, I was chatting with a lady that I had run with at Ragnar-TN. \u00a0She and I both agree that we are glad we ran Ragnar but probably wouldn’t do it again. \u00a0It was a “Once is enough.” type of a race.<\/p>\n
We were chatting, husbands by our sides when this guy comes up. \u00a0He is a super nice guy but he intimidates the socks off me. \u00a0He is a very serious Ultra runner. \u00a0Just always Very. Serious. \u00a0I usually shrink into a corner when I see him coming.<\/p>\n
Yesterday, he came right up to me. \u00a0He looked at me in amazement and blurted out, “I didn’t recognize you! \u00a0You look fabulous! \u00a0You’ve almost completely disappeared~you’re so thin!!!”<\/p>\n
I kinda just stood there, mouth hanging open. \u00a0I mean, what do you say? \u00a0How do you reply? \u00a0It was super, super nice though!!! \u00a0Totally made my day! \u00a0\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
I stammered a thank you and frantically looked for an escape.<\/p>\n
The rest of the party I was on cloud nine. \u00a0I can’t think of a better way to kick off 2015 than with an awesome compliment like that. \u00a0May you have a Happy New Year as well!!!<\/p>\n
