I knew I had an Ultra on tap and a Marathon and then some shorter distance races. I put on my thinking cap and picked a number. 1600. That sounded do-able. I would have to work, but I thought it was attainable.

I set about working towards my 1600 miles for 2014.

A couple of weeks into 2014, I found myself on crutches with a stress injury. Boo. I was on crutches for 5(?) weeks. Put me out of commission. I kissed my 1600 goal bye-bye.

Once I was off the crutches, though, my training was going well. I thought to myself…maybe it was still do-able? I kept my fingers crossed and kept that 1600 in the back of my mind.

I successfully completed the Ultra in July and put my sights towards the Chicago Marathon. 6 weeks before Chicago I sustained a concussion. Rats! I was completely out of commission for that for the better part of 3 weeks. My main concern was still being able to run a full marathon with a concussion!

Chicago was a success. I was forced to run the entire race looking at the ground because if I looked up, I got super dizzy from the head trauma. Completed that race, I did, with a PR to boot! #HappyCamper

One evening, soon after this, I tallied my miles. 1600 was still do-able! Holy Cow!!! This was at the beginning of November. I figured that if I ran somewhere close to 150 miles in November and December, I could STILL make my goal. Unreal.

So, I started working towards my 150 miles in November. Three days later, I messed up my ankle hitting a rock on a run. The Doctor put me in a boot. Two more weeks of no running. That made a grand total of 10 weeks out of training for the 2014 calendar year.

I watched that 1600 goal disappear. I was sad. It wasn’t the end of the world or anything, it was just I knew that if I hadn’t been injured quite so much, I would have made it! That was frustrating.

Today, I added up my miles again. As of right now, I have run 1525.78 miles in 2014. That means I have to run about 75 more miles this calendar year and I will reach my goal! Woo-Hoo!!! There are still 2.5 weeks left of 2014, too!!!

Do you think I’ll make it??? Keep your fingers crossed! 🙂

Oh, any my goal for 2015? I think a nice round 2000 miles sounds nice. HA!

2014 started with me setting a pretty lofty mileage goal (for me, that is).
