Believe it or not, I really am a little bit shy. \u00a0Granted, I’ll talk your ear off, but that is a self preservation thing to hide my shyness. \u00a0Insecurity. \u00a0So, today was a real stretch for me.<\/p>\n
See, MFH (My Favorite Husband) and I have been attending our church for 5 years now and we are just finally getting to the place where we can confidently put names and faces together. \u00a0The church has once a month sit down dinners and all, but we don’t usually go to those. \u00a0I know a few of the people at church who are runners but I am afraid that is pretty much as far as our socializing goes.<\/p>\n
Our church is full of super nice people. \u00a0Actually, it is full of very gracious people! \u00a0The more I get to know them, the more I enjoy their company.<\/p>\n
We used to “share a pew” with this lady and her daughter. \u00a0The lady is 7 years older than me. \u00a0Her daughter (grown) visits on weekends and would come to church with her mom on Sunday mornings. \u00a0We would exchange pleasantries. \u00a0You know, chat before the service…that sort of thing.<\/p>\n
Backtrack.<\/p>\n
A year ago, I was asked to be involved with a group of ladies who provided meals for people in the church who were in need of help for some reason or another. \u00a0I have done that a couple of times. \u00a0We rotate through the group so that one person doesn’t get buried with doing this all the time.<\/p>\n
Remember I told you about the Cookie Swap earlier this week? \u00a0Well, while I was at the Cookie Swap, the lady in charge of meals asked me if I would be able to prepare a meal for ______. \u00a0She then told me that _______ had received word from her Dr. that her cancer treatments were not working and that she needed to make sure her affairs were in order. \u00a0That sort of thing.<\/p>\n
I was surprised first of all. \u00a0Last I had heard, ________ was doing better! \u00a0Then, I felt really bad. \u00a0Even though we had never had any deep heart to heart conversations, I liked this lady. \u00a0She was pretty cool! \u00a0I agreed immediately to provide the meal.<\/p>\n
Through a phone conversation, we determined a menu and when would be a good time to bring it over. \u00a0Fortunately for me, she has a TON of casseroles, stews and all…what she really wanted was BBQ.<\/p>\n
We have the BEST BBQ place 2 miles from our house. \u00a0I found out what she wanted and bought it and went straight to her house today. \u00a0Not having to subject her to my feeble attempts at cooking was a relief!<\/p>\n
I told MFH I would be home around 3:00 PM. \u00a0WRONG! \u00a0We talked and laughed for 2 whole hours. \u00a0Next thing I knew, it was 4:00 PM. \u00a0Wow! \u00a0Where had the time gone!? \u00a0We were having such a good time but it was time to go.<\/p>\n
I gave her a hug (She is bedridden now~poor dear.) and took my leave.<\/p>\n
You know, aside from the fact that she has lost 50lbs from her illness and can’t get out of bed, she is a fabulous lady! \u00a0Not one word of complaint. \u00a0Nada.<\/p>\n
She’ll tell you about what the Dr’s have done and all, but just factual statements. \u00a0No complaints. \u00a0I was impressed.<\/p>\n
This is her 3rd hit with this cancer (ovarian). \u00a0Third time with chemo and radiation. \u00a03rd hit in 4 years. \u00a0She has fought valiantly.<\/p>\n
