May 24, 2015 will be MFH (My Favorite Husband) and my 30th Wedding Anniversary. \u00a0We are pretty excited about this! \u00a0Anniversary’s are special and all, but this one is a big one!<\/p>\n
We have talked a bit about someday taking a trip to Europe. \u00a0We like to travel. \u00a0We enjoy going on drives across the United States. \u00a0We do some flying but as a general rule, we drive. \u00a0Flying is so intrusive (thank you TSA and all your dumb rules) and we prefer to just hop in the car and go wherever we want.<\/p>\n
Europe. \u00a0That is an entirely different ball game. \u00a0A lot of ramifications involved in a trip across the Ocean. \u00a0The thought was rather intimidating so we would just push the idea to the back of our minds and never take any action on that dream.<\/p>\n
Well, with our 30th Anniversary coming up next year, I decided that we needed a good excuse to HAVE to travel. \u00a0I got an idea. \u00a0We travel for races all the time. \u00a0Usually we have one big race a year that involves travelling. \u00a0Two years ago it was to Maine for a marathon and this year to Chicago for the marathon there. \u00a0What about a marathon in Europe? \u00a0Hmmm….<\/p>\n
I started Googling.<\/p>\n
Rats. \u00a0I was too late for London and besides, that is almost impossible to get into. \u00a0Paris, just missed the dates for that one, too. \u00a0What were the major marathons anyway? \u00a0Google is my friend and did not let me down. \u00a0Berlin. \u00a0Hey! \u00a0Berlin is a Fall marathon and that was the time of year I wanted to run anyway. \u00a0I put my name in the hat. \u00a0This was before I even ran Chicago.<\/p>\n
I pushed the drawing date to the back of my mind.<\/p>\n
I new the drawing was getting close but MFH had his birthday this week and I wanted to make that day special for him. \u00a0The drawing completely slipped my mind.<\/p>\n
Now, I am a creature of habit or should I say, I like structure. \u00a0My mornings are pretty much the same thing. \u00a0Breakfast with MFH then coffee at my laptop. \u00a0I scroll through social media and save my Yahoo mail for last. \u00a0Yahoo mail is pretty dull stuff so I save it for last just because it is boring.<\/p>\n
So, this morning, I opened up my Yahoo mail and saw this: \u00a0wir hoffen Sie sind bereit zur 42. Auflage des BMW BERLIN-MARATHON die 42 km (+195 Meter) durch die Hauptstadt zu laufen, denn: Sie wurden ausgelost und sind im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes “am Start”!<\/p>\n
I said, “huh???”<\/p>\n
I looked for a translation button. \u00a0Didn’t see one, so I kept on scrolling until I saw this!: \u00a0 \u00a0We hope you are ready to participate in the 42nd edition of the 42 km (+195 Meter) at the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON race through the capital… for your name was drawn for a spot at the starting line!<\/p>\n
Woo-Hoo!!! \u00a0I let out a whoop and MFH said, “What in the world is going on!?!”<\/p>\n
I replied, “You need to get your Passport updated, Sweetie, because we are going to Germany!!!”<\/p>\n
Yup. \u00a0Germany for our Anniversary! \u00a0How awesome is that!?!<\/p>\n
Over lunch today, I asked him, “So, what do you want to do when we are in Germany.”<\/p>\n
He said, “Well, I hear there are castles there.”<\/p>\n
“Yes! \u00a0Yes there ARE castles in Germany!” I replied.<\/p>\n
