{"id":2683,"date":"2014-10-17T13:10:56","date_gmt":"2014-10-17T18:10:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?p=2683"},"modified":"2014-10-17T13:11:06","modified_gmt":"2014-10-17T18:11:06","slug":"an-adventure-in-mowing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?p=2683","title":{"rendered":"An Adventure In Mowing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Today I got to cut the grass!!! \u00a0I was so excited! \u00a0Y&#8217;all know how much I love to cut the grass (absolutely NO sarcasm. \u00a0I really do like it!). \u00a0I got my morning housework done. \u00a0We ate an early lunch and I headed on out the door.<\/p>\n<p>I was surprised at all the autumn leaves in the yard! \u00a0I guess I shouldn&#8217;t have been, it is half way through October after all.<\/p>\n<p>Once I noticed all the leaves, I began to inspect the yard as I mowed. \u00a0I was looking for signs of dormancy. \u00a0How much longer would this years mowing season last?<\/p>\n<p>The yard is showing absolutely NO signs of being dormant. \u00a0I will be mowing at least until the end of November. \u00a0This makes me happy. \u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>The other thing that surprised me was the number of fire ant hills! \u00a0Usually around this time of year you don&#8217;t see many of them.<\/p>\n<p>When we were in Chicago last weekend, our area received over 2&#8243; of rain. \u00a0This must&#8217;ve brought out the fire ants. \u00a0There were quite a few substantial hills.<\/p>\n<p>As I approached the hills, I thought of my MFP pal Gigi. \u00a0She likes to remind me of how industrious ants are. \u00a0I kept that in mind as I mowed them down. \u00a0I felt just a tiny bit guilty. \u00a0Not guilty enough to stop~and I thoroughly enjoy watching those nasty ants run around absolutely furious with me due to the fact that I had leveled their home.<\/p>\n<p>This was the first time I had mowed since the chickens had moved to their new home. \u00a0They lived on the East side of the property. \u00a0It was quiet over there. \u00a0No hens clucking trying to catch the bugs I had chased into their enclosure with the mower. \u00a0No Peter announcing to the neighborhood that I was out mowing. \u00a0That was sad.<\/p>\n<p>It is the time of year for spiders!<\/p>\n<p>This time of year, the humongo spiders come out and build these big webs under branches, between bushes&#8230;they are opportunists. \u00a0I keep my eyes open for them.<\/p>\n<p>We have some overhanging wires on our property and as I got close to go under those wires, I was inspecting them pretty doggone close. \u00a0I did not encounter any spider there.<\/p>\n<p>HOWEVER&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I forgot about the spiders as I was mowing around the Crepe Myrtles.<\/p>\n<p>I was zipping round those trees\/bushes on the West side of the property when, Ewwww!!!!! \u00a0Right through a big, nasty, awful spider web!<\/p>\n<p>I was flailing my arms and kicking up a fuss and there was nobody there to check to see if I had a spider on me! \u00a0It was awful! \u00a0What to do?<\/p>\n<p>Well, I drove back to where the spider web was and looked. \u00a0Whew! \u00a0The spider was still there~and he was mad! \u00a0That thing was huge, too! \u00a0I truly am not exaggerating when I say it was well over the size of a quarter. \u00a0It was brown and it was one of those spiders that have a huge butt. \u00a0You know, not a long skinny spider, the kind with a big butt! \u00a0I have never been so glad to see a spider in my life!<\/p>\n<p>Can you imagine if that big ol&#8217; thing was on me!?! \u00a0*shiver*<\/p>\n<p>I came back into the house and changed into my bee stuff. \u00a0It was time to mow around the bees now.<\/p>\n<p>This was relatively uneventful. \u00a0That is, until I had to mow directly in front of and around the hives themselves.<\/p>\n<p>The bees are very busy this time of year. \u00a0They are frantically trying to get all the last little tidbits that they can before the cold weather hits. \u00a0Mowing in front of their hives blocks their traffic pattern. \u00a0They do not like that.<\/p>\n<p>So, I am mowing as quickly as possible in front of the hives and I have bees attacking me. \u00a0&#8220;Ping! \u00a0Ping! \u00a0Ping!&#8221; \u00a0The bees were bounding off the screen around my head. \u00a0They were doing their darnedest to get to my face and sting me.<\/p>\n<p>Poor things. \u00a0Can&#8217;t say I really blame them for being upset. \u00a0It had to be done, though. \u00a0I did try to hurry.<\/p>\n<p>That is my adventure in mowing today. \u00a0It was so much fun (well, except for the spider part!).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Today I got to cut the grass!!! \u00a0I was so excited! \u00a0Y&#8217;all know how much I love to cut the grass (absolutely NO sarcasm. \u00a0I really do like it!). \u00a0I got my morning housework done. \u00a0We ate an early lunch and I headed on out the door.
