A Doctor should never tell me that I cannot do something. \u00a0That is like saying “Sick’em” to a dog.<\/p>\n
A year ago this past Summer, I was training for my first Marathon. \u00a0This was the Mount Desert Island Marathon in Bar Harbor, Maine. \u00a0 At this time, I was having some trouble with pain on the top of my left foot. \u00a0Seeing as training was just getting under way, I decided to see the Dr. and make sure that nothing major was going on.<\/p>\n
The Doctor, a woman in her mid 60’s, took an x-ray. \u00a0She was unable to determine, at that time just what was the problem but told me that there was no way I would be able to run a Marathon with my foot the way it was.<\/p>\n
Uh-huh.<\/p>\n
I paid my bill and never looked back.<\/p>\n
MFH and I flew into New England that October, we ran that race together and had a wonderful time!<\/p>\n
Three weeks ago, I had need to go see this same Doctor again. \u00a0This time with a head injury. \u00a0Again, the same diagnosis of, “There is no way you can run this Marathon.”<\/p>\n
Again, my response was, “Uh-huh.” \u00a0And again I paid my bill and have not looked back.<\/p>\n
Granted, I have been a little bit easier on myself than I was a year ago. \u00a0A head injury is a little bit different than a sore foot, but I have done my darnedest to get back to some semblance of, well, me, so that I can run my Marathon in a couple of weeks.<\/p>\n
Today, I pounded out a 21 miler.<\/p>\n
