Call me a sissy! I immediately switched gears and moved my training schedule around. I changed my long run to today. Got it done. It was still pretty toasty by the time I was done, but I got it done and that is what counts.

The second thing I thought of…can you guess? Yup! The chickens.

See, with this cooler weather, I have not been taking them their ice water and frozen watermelon. They really haven’t needed it! My supply of these items was depleted. I needed to re-stock.

So, after today’s long run, I talked MFH (My Favorite Husband) into running errands with me. First stop was the Co-op. They are the only place around that carries the 22% protein layer pellet I like to give my hens. All the other places around only carry a 16% protein layer pellet. Boo on that!

Off we went to the Co-op. I purchased two 50 lbs bags of the layer pellet, one 50 lb bag of oyster shell (we want nice, strong egg shells…it makes it easier on the ladies) and two bags of freeze dried meal worms (treats at “bedtime for birdies”). That should hold the chickens for regular stuff for a while.

After the Co-op, we stopped at a grocery store. Not WalMart. I wanted to go to WalMart because they have the large watermelons for $4.00 right now. We stopped at a Sunflower Market. Their watermelons were double the price of WalMart! $8.00 for a watermelon!!! MFH does not like going to WalMart so he paid it. I would have walked out myself. I think that price is outrageous! We also bought two 10 lb bags of ice…for the chickens ice water.

We came home and carried all of that stuff into the house and put it into the deep freeze. I am ready for our toasty weather starting tomorrow.

Always be prepared!

I like to think of myself as a flexible person. Not as in physically “bendy” but pertaining to my schedule, flexible.
