The Big Butt&#8217;s 50K Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is done.<\/p>\n<p>Finally.<\/p>\n<p>What a race!!!<\/p>\n<p>The temps started out in the low 80&#8217;s with matching humidity. \u00a0Not too bad for a July morning in Mississippi. \u00a0We all started out strong. \u00a0By the time people were reaching the 5 mile water stop (where MFH~My Favorite Husband~had set up a water stop for me) everybody was completely drenched. \u00a0Holy Cow! \u00a0It was getting warm. \u00a0Fast!<\/p>\n<p>We all plugged on but by mile 8, most people had already switched to a walk\/run combination. \u00a0I reached the 10 mile mark at 10:30 am. \u00a0The RD (Race Director) had set out a large thermometer so the racers could see the temp. \u00a0When I passed at that first 10 miles, it was already 100F. \u00a0No wonder I was melting!!!<\/p>\n<p>I stopped at our tent and changed into a fresh pair of running shorts. \u00a0The ones I had been wearing were completely soaked and sticking to me. \u00a0I couldn&#8217;t stand it! \u00a0I was thankful to have thought to bring an extra pair! \u00a0I filled my water bottle and soldiered on.<\/p>\n<p>The second 10 mile lap was substantially slower than the first. \u00a0Most everybody I passed (and yes, I DID pass people!) were walking. \u00a0At this point, I was still doing a walk\/run combination. \u00a0It hurt. \u00a0Due to the heat, it was hard to run for a full mile. \u00a0I was having a difficult time regulating my Heart Rate. \u00a0Had to keep it slow. \u00a0A lot of people were dropping out. \u00a0There were a lot of DNF&#8217;s yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>I made it to the end of the second loop. \u00a0The thermometer, that they had so nicely put out for us was now reading 112F. \u00a0Holy Cow!!! \u00a0That was unreal! \u00a0I walked over to my tent, refilled my water bottle and headed on out for my last lap.<\/p>\n<p>112 degrees. \u00a0There was NO WAY I was going to even try to run in 112F!!! \u00a0I walked the last loop. \u00a0Call me a sissy. \u00a0That last loop, I did not meet one person out there who was running. \u00a0Everybody was walking. \u00a0No one ran.<\/p>\n<p>It was brutal.<\/p>\n<p>BUT~~~I finished!!! \u00a0I did it!!! \u00a0It took an agonizing 10 hours. \u00a0And I was not last, either!!! \u00a0People were still out there!!! \u00a0That made me feel better \u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>My sister and her family met me at the water stop MFH had set up for me on my last lap. \u00a0My sister walked with me a little bit. \u00a0I enjoyed that!<\/p>\n<p>The race was advertised as &#8220;Flat and Fast.&#8221; \u00a0Flat and Fast my A$$!!! \u00a0There were places where I was on my hands and knees climbing out of ravines. \u00a0Trying to find a tree root or something that I could grasp to help me get out of there.<\/p>\n<p>It was really hard.<\/p>\n<p>It was worth it!!!<\/p>\n<p>Would I do it again?<\/p>\n<p>Not that race. \u00a0I lost a total of 12 pounds doing that race yesterday. \u00a0Unreal.<\/p>\n<p>I want to do another Ultra, though!!! \u00a0Heck, YA I do!!! \u00a0Just maybe one where it is cooler. \u00a0That would be lovely!!<\/p>\n<p>If it had been maybe about 10-15 degrees cooler, I would have been able to run the entire thing (well, except for the ravines and all). \u00a0That part was a little disappointing but all in all, I am content.<\/p>\n<p>There were no finishers in the 100K yesterday. \u00a0Nobody could do it. \u00a0Too hot, too hard. \u00a0They either dropped to the 50K or were a DNF.<\/p>\n<p>What an awesome experience!!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is done.
