Today was my last scheduled Loooong, long training run for my 50K. \u00a0Well, actually LAST Wednesday was supposed to be my last loooong, long training run for my 50K BUT, if you recall, I got stung by a bee at mile 14 and had to go home for Benadryl.<\/p>\n
Today was supposed to be the day. 22-24 miles. \u00a0Just slog it out and get it done. \u00a0After today, I was going to begin my taper.<\/p>\n
Ah…..Taper. \u00a0Isn’t that a lovely word? \u00a0After training since March for this race, I am more than ready to slow down a little bit!<\/p>\n
But it was not mean to be.<\/p>\n
I woke up this morning at 2:30. \u00a0I was ready to do this run! \u00a0MFH (My Favorite Husband) made the pancakes to start out the day. \u00a0They were delicious!<\/p>\n
About the time we sat down to eat, a thunderstorm rolled through. \u00a0I really didn’t give it much thought. \u00a0We get a lot of storms roll through our area. \u00a0They just zoom right past us and then we get to enjoy the remainder of our day. \u00a0I figured that today would be the same.<\/p>\n
I ate my breakfast and fiddled around a little bit, waiting for the storm to pass. \u00a0It did. The rain stopped and everything, so I headed on out the door.<\/p>\n
Only about a quarter of a mile from the house the rain began to fall again. \u00a0I was happy about this! \u00a0I enjoy running in the rain! \u00a0It keeps me cooled off. \u00a0I continued on.<\/p>\n
At the end of Robinson Road, not quite to the place where I turn around, “KA-Boom!” \u00a0There was a bright flash of lightening along with it!!! \u00a0It was pretty close, too.<\/p>\n
RATS.<\/p>\n
I turned around, pulled out my phone (MFH doesn’t like me to run during electrical storms) and called for a ride. \u00a0I only got three miles in this morning.<\/p>\n
While it was a nice run (I was maintaining an excellent pace) due to the cool temps and rain, it was no-where near the distance of 22-24 miles I was planning on running. \u00a0Boo.<\/p>\n
Tomorrow. \u00a0Tomorrow will be my very last chance to get in this long run. \u00a0Keep your fingers crossed. \u00a0If I do not get these miles in, I will go to the race feeling, yes, prepared for the race but not as prepared as I would like to be. \u00a0And that would suck.<\/p>\n
