{"id":2413,"date":"2014-05-21T14:29:11","date_gmt":"2014-05-21T19:29:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?p=2413"},"modified":"2014-05-21T14:29:11","modified_gmt":"2014-05-21T19:29:11","slug":"todays-run-fail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?p=2413","title":{"rendered":"Today&#8217;s Run:  Fail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s scheduled run was 22 miles. \u00a0I did not make that lofty goal. \u00a0I only ran 19.52 miles. \u00a0MFH met me at that spot and made me stop. \u00a0I know it was the right thing to do but still&#8230;Rats!<\/p>\n<p>Here is what happened&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I was running along Hwy 182 having a lovely run. \u00a0Things were going perfect. \u00a0I was about a half to a quarter mile away from the 15 mile water stop when I noticed a truck pull into the driveway where we stash the bucket, aka: Water stop.<\/p>\n<p>This cute little old guy gets out of the truck. \u00a0He walked over to the bucket. \u00a0I am getting nervous. \u00a0I am about out of Gatorade and do not want to see my supply go bye-bye.<\/p>\n<p>The cute little old guy picks up the bucket and starts poking around the contents. \u00a0This is not good. \u00a0He then carries the bucket to the trailer that he is pulling with his truck. \u00a0He was going to take my water stop!!!<\/p>\n<p>I started yelling, &#8220;Sir! \u00a0Sir!!!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He did not hear me.<\/p>\n<p>Panic.<\/p>\n<p>I run faster.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sir! \u00a0SIR!!!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I am running about as fast as I can by now and am yelling at the top of my lungs, waving my arms&#8230;generally looking like an idiot.<\/p>\n<p>He finally notices me and stops.<\/p>\n<p>I reached him and explained that the bucket was my water stop. \u00a0I apologized for not asking permission before stashing it at the end of his driveway.<\/p>\n<p>He was pretty cool for a cute little old guy.<\/p>\n<p>He said, &#8220;I used to be an Army Ranger.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I was immediately impressed.<\/p>\n<p>He continued, &#8220;We had to do 10 mile runs every single day. \u00a0Sunday&#8217;s were the worst because we had to run the 10 miles carrying our weapons. \u00a0I hated that! \u00a0I understand the need for a water stop. \u00a0Feel free to use my driveway.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Nice guy!<\/p>\n<p>I now had a problem, though. \u00a0I was overheated from trying to reach the guy before my water stop disappeared. \u00a0Rats!<\/p>\n<p>I drank my Gatorade and refilled my carry bottle.<\/p>\n<p>MFH had put bottles of water in the bucket for me to douse myself but they and the Gatorade were rather warm. \u00a0Almost hot to the touch. \u00a0It was counterproductive.<\/p>\n<p>I started back up. \u00a0SLOW. \u00a0I knew I was in trouble.<\/p>\n<p>I ran another three miles then called my parents. \u00a0They lived about 7 miles from where I was running. \u00a0MFH was about 20 miles from where I was running. \u00a0I asked them if they would be willing to bring me some ice water. \u00a0They did!<\/p>\n<p>I drank some of the ice water and then poured the rest on myself.<\/p>\n<p>BRRRR!!! \u00a0I started to chill.<\/p>\n<p>I thanked my parents and continued on to my next to the last water stop. \u00a0I was supposed to call MFH from there. \u00a0I reached the water stop, called MFH and kept on going. \u00a0He started driving to the last water stop.<\/p>\n<p>This last section of the run had no shade whatsoever and was very hilly. \u00a0This just would not do.<\/p>\n<p>I was burning up.<\/p>\n<p>I called MFH again and asked where he was. \u00a0He was at the water stop I had just left a couple of miles back. \u00a0I told him how hot I was and asked if he could meet me with some more cold water.<\/p>\n<p>We met up about a mile later, \u00a0He gave me some cool water and I immediately dumped it on myself. \u00a0That was cold! \u00a0It felt great! \u00a0But I was hot right away again. \u00a0No relief. \u00a0He had me pour another bottle on myself, and then a third. \u00a0I could not cool down and started getting dizzy.<\/p>\n<p>He pulled the plug on the rest of the run. \u00a0I was sooooo close! \u00a0But I know he was right. \u00a0RATS. \u00a0I am still on schedule for the race. \u00a0That is not a problem. \u00a0I just feel like a huge failure when I do not complete a training run.<\/p>\n<p>So, that is my confession for the day. \u00a0Run incomplete.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s scheduled run was 22 miles. \u00a0I did not make that lofty goal. \u00a0I only ran 19.52 miles. \u00a0MFH met me at that spot and made me stop. \u00a0I know it was the right thing to do but still&#8230;Rats!
