Yesterdays blog ended up with an “unfortunate” title…”I Was Late.”<\/p>\n
No. \u00a0The rabbit did NOT die. \u00a0There is no bun in the oven. \u00a0I am not pregnant.<\/p>\n
But, I would like to thank everybody who took the time to send off notes of congratulations. \u00a0That was very sweet! \u00a0I am sorry if I misled you.<\/p>\n
I fully intended to run today and mow tomorrow but the National Weather Service changed my plans for me. \u00a0Lots and lots and lots of rain tomorrow. \u00a0That means a very soggy yard for a few days on a yard that already needs mowed. \u00a0Nope. \u00a0Decided to mow today.<\/p>\n
Tomorrow will be a rest day, too. \u00a0This time, though, I will really rest. \u00a0No mowing. \u00a0Just housework. \u00a0HA! \u00a0With all the rain\/thunderstorms there will be no run tomorrow.<\/p>\n
Tomorrow was supposed to be my long run day. \u00a0I’m not going to risk being a long way from home, running, in a thunderstorm. \u00a0The long run will have to wait until Thursday. \u00a0As a bonus, we are having a cold front come through on Wednesday evening and the high is only supposed to get to 75F on Thursday! \u00a0Awesome!!! \u00a0Maybe I will not melt on my run!<\/p>\n
The chickens were happy to see the mower today. \u00a0I told you they were opportunists. \u00a0This morning MFH (My Favorite Husband) and I relocated the chicken tractor. \u00a0Those lucky chickens already had fresh grass and new bugs from that, but with the mowing, that meant even more bugs! \u00a0They were pleased. \u00a0I watched them happily chasing bugs and eating them as I was making passes on the mower.<\/p>\n
We have a very large oak tree on the SW corner of our property. \u00a0It had a limb that was hanging very, very low. \u00a0It was too low for me to get under to “trim the verge.” \u00a0MFH took a saw last week and cut off that low branch. \u00a0I was able to zoom under the tree today and neaten up that area. \u00a0The chickens are content and so am I.<\/p>\n
So many things pop into my head while I mow. \u00a0It really is a relaxing time.<\/p>\n
I was disappointed in the lack of fire ant hills today. \u00a0They have gone deep into the ground right now. \u00a0The ground is very dry and cracking in some areas of the yard. \u00a0If we get all the rain we are supposed to, they will be popping up again all around the yard and I will get to decimate some ant hills when I mow next week. \u00a0Never fear! \u00a0I know of a few people who are interested in my glee of destroying ant hills. \u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
I suited up for the last bit of mowing. \u00a0It was 91F. I put on 2 pairs of jeans. \u00a0Two long sleeved shirts, rubber rain boots, bee jacket, pith helmet and veil and long sleeved leather gloves. \u00a0I headed on out for the dreaded part of mowing. \u00a0Cutting the grass around the bees.<\/p>\n
It only takes about a half hour but in all those clothes, it is a sauna. \u00a0I begin down close the the field behind our house on the South and gradually get closer and closer to the bees. \u00a0It is my theory that they will get used to the noise of the mower and not come after me.<\/p>\n
Wrong.<\/p>\n
Well, only partially wrong. 5 of the 6 hives could not have cared less about my mowing all around their hives. \u00a0That 6th hive though, the “grouchy hive” lived up to its name. \u00a0Again.<\/p>\n
Man. \u00a0Those bees are MEAN! \u00a0They came literally pouring out of that hive! \u00a0They did not want me any where near their hive. \u00a0Some days, I think about dousing that hive with gasoline and lighting a match. \u00a0I cannot get into that hive to extract honey or anything. \u00a0It is my theory that they are Africanized. \u00a0That is the only thing that can explain their aggressive behavior. \u00a0In the meantime, they chase me back up the house each and every time I mow.<\/p>\n
Those are the things I thought about and experienced while mowing today. \u00a0Tomorrow, housework. \u00a0And, really, I am NOT pregnant.<\/p>\n
