MFH (My Favorite Husband) and I went to a big Hoo-Rah at MSU (Mississippi State University) last night.<\/p>\n
Our running friend was inducted into the Hall of Honor at MSU. \u00a0This is a big deal.<\/p>\n
“Mike” retired from State in 2009. \u00a0He was the Dean of Students there for a long, long time. \u00a0He did a fabulous job. \u00a0Left behind him a great legacy.<\/p>\n
MFH and I know Mike and his wife from our running group. \u00a0Every Saturday morning, we meet and his house for the Saturday morning run. \u00a0We average 25 runners on any given Saturday. \u00a0We meet at 6:15 am and run various routes each Saturday. \u00a0We average 15+ miles each Saturday morning. \u00a0It is a great group of people!<\/p>\n
Mike and his wife go to great lengths to make people feel welcome. \u00a0It does not matter if you have run Boston or if you have never accomplished running a mile, all are welcome. \u00a0It is a nurturing group.<\/p>\n
Plus, there is food!<\/p>\n
Yup. \u00a0Everybody brings a snack for after the run. \u00a0Something to keep you motivated while you are out there on the road.<\/p>\n
Early on Saturday mornings, you will find Mike out there in his old pick up truck putting out water stops every 3-4 miles. \u00a0These include paper cups, Gatorade and water. \u00a0The water stops are in plastic garbage bags. \u00a0You put your used cups, gels, etc into the bag when you are done with them. \u00a0No littering!<\/p>\n
Last Summer when MFH and I were training for our Fall marathon, we had some very long runs…longer than the scheduled running group run. \u00a0They encouraged us to arrive at their house at 4:30 am and park in their driveway. \u00a0They let us come into their house at that early, early hour to use the facilities before hitting the road. \u00a0Long after all the other runners were back at the house, Mike would come out, find us and give us cold Gatorade because he knew we needed it. \u00a0That is going above and beyond.<\/p>\n
So, being invited to Mike’s induction to the Hall of Honor last night, truly was an honor. \u00a0We count him as a dear friend and would not have missed his special evening for the world.<\/p>\n
