Peter, my Rooster, has fallen in love.<\/p>\n
You would think that this lovely hen would swoon at all the attention he is giving her but, alas, that is not the case. \u00a0In fact, what is happening is she is playing “Hard to get.” \u00a0She is doing her darnedest to avoid poor Peter and his affections.<\/p>\n
Greta is the object of Peter’s young love.<\/p>\n
Greta is a Barred Rock Hen. \u00a0She is a very pretty hen. \u00a0Maybe that is why Peter has fallen so hard for her.<\/p>\n
She has always been rather aloof. \u00a0The other hens have accepted this and as a rule do not do much socializing with her. \u00a0I guess you could almost call her a “Stick in the Mud.” \u00a0Peter does not care. \u00a0He looks at her through star struck eyes. \u00a0Poor Peter. \u00a0He has his work cut out for him!<\/p>\n
Peter has taken to following (stalking?) Greta around the chicken yard. \u00a0He crows frequently, telling her of his feelings for her. \u00a0She does not care. \u00a0She flies up on top of the chicken tractor to avoid his ardor. \u00a0He is not easily dissuaded. It is an ongoing battle day in and day out.<\/p>\n
Greta will hide inside the chicken tractor in the early mornings to make sure that Peter is out of the way before she comes out to get her breakfast. \u00a0Peter is no dumb bunny, he watches for her. \u00a0As soon as she tip-toes cautiously out of the tractor, he bursts into song and tries to catch her.<\/p>\n
Sometimes Greta is lucky and can hop up onto the top of the tractor before Peter reaches her and sometimes, well…Peter and his youthful ardor, wins.<\/p>\n
Peter is oblivious to the other hens. \u00a0He only has eyes for Greta.<\/p>\n
What will become of our star struck young Rooster? \u00a0Will Greta give him the cold shoulder enough times to discourage him? \u00a0Only time will tell. \u00a0In the meantime, I get to listen to Peter sing his little Rooster heart out to the love of his life, Greta.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
