Those Storms!

Most of you know that I live in Mississippi. If you have been paying attention to the news this past week then you are aware that we have had some scary weather this past week.

Monday we spent approximately three hours “hiding” in our bedroom closet. That is our “Tornado Shelter.” Really, it would not do a thing to protect us but at least we would have made an attempt at getting some protection from the storms.

What we really did was spend that time in the closet with MFH (My Favorite Husband’s) laptop, draining the battery, watching House reruns while I checked the radar, etc. on my cell phone.

We got very, very lucky.

Our power went out around 6:30 pm Monday evening. We had our power restored around 4:00 pm on Tuesday. All the food in the refrigerator spoiled. That is not so awful.

During the storm, I heard a lot of wind. During a lull in the storm, we went out to assess what was happening. A section of the railing of our from porch was blown off to a 45 degree angle. Interesting! Our neighbor had a tree blown in half and his fence ruined.

Our road had some trees blown down.

The road next to us, (a half a mile away) had a lot of damage. The neighbors there had part of their roof take off and an outbuilding, well, half it was blown away.

Further up the road, about 1 mile away, an entire row of Maple trees were blown up (like an explosion, not by the roots). And a mile to the South of us, a church was destroyed. Turned into toothpicks.

That was called an E-2 tornado at that location.

So, the best we can figure is that the place with the trees blown up was where that E-2 tornado started, it picked itself up off the ground, jumped over our place and landed and blew that church to smithereens.

We were very, very fortunate.

Most of you know that I live in Mississippi. If you have been paying attention to the news this past week then you are aware that we have had some scary weather this past week.
