I got the email. \u00a0I yelled to MFH (My Favorite Husband) “I’m in!” and sat there and cried.<\/p>\n
I could not believe it! \u00a0I mean, I really, really wanted it but did not expect it to happen. \u00a0Over 70,000 people had signed up for 45,000 slots and some of those were already taken by people who had pre-qualified. \u00a0The odds were not in my favor.<\/p>\n
Then, some of my friends started getting their acceptance emails. \u00a0I was very, very happy for them but it was not looking good for me. \u00a0They were only going to send out acceptance emails for another 45 minutes. \u00a0Nope. \u00a0Not this year.<\/p>\n
Oh well…there was a nice marathon on the Gulf Coast that had my eye. \u00a0I would do that one instead.<\/p>\n
Then, for the millionth time today, I refreshed my email. \u00a0There was an email from Chicago. \u00a0Oh, man…here is was, the “Thanks but no thanks” email.” \u00a0I opened it up and it said, “Congratulations! \u00a0You have been selected to run the 2014 Chicago Marathon!” \u00a0Wow! \u00a0Oh Wow! \u00a0Oh Wow!!!<\/p>\n
That is when I yelled to MFH and then cried. \u00a0I was stunned. \u00a0I was excited! \u00a0I was very happy! \u00a0I was in shock.<\/p>\n
Chicago. \u00a0Both of my children were born in Chicago. \u00a0We moved from there when my son was an infant and he is now 24. \u00a0It has been a long time. \u00a0Cannot wait to get a decent pizza!<\/p>\n
So, my race schedule has changed a little bit. \u00a0I was contemplating some small races this fall after my 50K but I think that after the 50K (July 26) \u00a0I will pretty much just have to maintain my fitness level until October.<\/p>\n
Wow! \u00a0This has been a real, “Pinch me, I am dreaming” day.<\/p>\n
