{"id":2353,"date":"2014-04-10T14:51:36","date_gmt":"2014-04-10T19:51:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?p=2353"},"modified":"2014-04-10T14:51:36","modified_gmt":"2014-04-10T19:51:36","slug":"mowing-and-geometry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?p=2353","title":{"rendered":"Mowing and Geometry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I mowed today. \u00a0I love to mow! \u00a0It is a very relaxing activity for me. \u00a0I enjoy the solitude and spending time outdoors.<\/p>\n<p>There are certain things one must do while mowing. \u00a0Well, really only one. \u00a0That is to make certain that all of your passes in the lawn are perfectly straight. \u00a0Straight lines in your yard (remember, the neighbors can see your yard!) are a must. \u00a0Today was an Epic Fail!<\/p>\n<p>We have received a great deal of rain here in Mississippi. \u00a0There are parts of our yard with close to a foot of standing water. \u00a0They are growing aquatic plants! \u00a0These plants must be even with the rest of the grass, but, alas, not even my beloved John Deere Z425 zero turn radius mower can handle that much water. \u00a0I had to mow around the standing water. \u00a0You can tell. \u00a0My lines are not straight. \u00a0Boo. \u00a0From the weather forecast, with the upcoming rain, it will be a long time until the lines are straight, too.<\/p>\n<p>As I was bemoaning my lack of straight lines, I began to notice a new pattern in my yard. \u00a0This time in the grass. \u00a0There were very lush, very green, very tall patches of grass in the yard~rectangular patches. \u00a0This hit my funny bone!<\/p>\n<p>You see, we keep the chickens in a chicken tractor. \u00a0It is rectangular (BIG rectangle~4&#8217;X8&#8242;) and we relocate it to different parts of our 2 acres every other day. \u00a0Chickens poop a LOT and they are very good fertilizers for the grass! \u00a0That solved the query as to what was causing the rectangle patches of grass.<\/p>\n<p>The last thing that I love about mowing is the circles. \u00a0Yes, you heard me right. \u00a0Circles.~~~Fire Ant Hills.<\/p>\n<p>I love mowing over Fire Ant hills! \u00a0Totally and completely decimating the hill with one pass and on the next pass watching a lot of very angry Fire Ants running around in a fury! \u00a0That is a lot of fun!<\/p>\n<p>One time last year I was mowing over Fire Ant hills and I took a big one out, but I was not paying attention to the direction of the wind. \u00a0BAD. \u00a0The wind blew a lot of very angry Fire Ants all over me. \u00a0I kept on mowing, frantically brushing them off of me, but it was not working. \u00a0Finally, I had to stop the mower, get off and dance a little bit while I was brushing them off. \u00a0I got bit that time but it still has not cured me of mowing over those hills.<\/p>\n<p>So, yes, mowing today was a lesson in geometry. \u00a0Lines and shapes. \u00a0I did not try to connect line A to point B or anything like that, but I was enjoying myself and accepting the challenges of the Fire Ant hills, trying to make my lines straight and getting a chuckle from those green rectangles. \u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I mowed today. \u00a0I love to mow! \u00a0It is a very relaxing activity for me. \u00a0I enjoy the solitude and spending time outdoors.
