Disconcerting is what that was. They opened that new Highway not a moment too soon.

They had placed barricades to keep traffic off the old section of Highway and they were pretty serious with those barricades. I had to step off the asphalt to go around them. At mile 2.50 I stepped off the Highway onto the “shoulder” of the road and did a face plant on the road. I biffed! I fell firmly. Down I went. Hard.

Of course, there had to be a group of 5 little construction guys right there to witness my fall. I was angry. I was embarrassed. I was hurt. The 5 construction guys were there pronto.

“Ma’am! Are you alright!?!”

I really was not quite sure if I was alright or not. My first thought was, “Oh no! My leg!!!” And then after I decided that my leg was okay, I thought, “Oh no! My phone!” Then I looked down and both of my knees were bleeding. RATS.

Let us just suffice it to say, I will be going a few days without shaving my legs. The knees are chewed up a little bit. Boo.

I thought about calling MFH to come and get me but with all the construction going on, there would be no place for him to pull over and pick me up. Instead, I ran another 2.50 miles, until I was off the old Highway, and then called him and he came and picked me up. I am a little stiff. Nothing that a run tomorrow morning will not fix! 🙂

That is this mornings run. I am happy to report that falling down did not make my pace slow at all. I still covered the miles I needed to run for the day. I gave the construction guys a show. All in all a successful morning?

A huge splat on the old side of Highway 45 South.
