Today’s run: 10K+<\/p>\n
Today I was supposed to be able to tell you that I ran 50 miles. \u00a0Today was supposed to be my 50 Mile Ultra Marathon. \u00a0Supposed.<\/p>\n
On Christmas Day, I messed up my left leg doing a 24 mile training run. \u00a0It hurt but I told myself to push on because I was training for that Ultra. \u00a0Push on I did. \u00a0For another 150 miles, I pushed on. \u00a0I pushed until I could push no further.<\/p>\n
I went to the Orthopedic Doctor.<\/p>\n
“Stress fracture.” \u00a0He said.<\/p>\n
“Boo.” \u00a0I said.<\/p>\n
“Crutches.” \u00a0He said.<\/p>\n
“Rats.” \u00a0I said.<\/p>\n
I got off my crutches last week. \u00a0Well, I kinda got off my crutches last week. \u00a0I took myself off my crutches and resumed running.<\/p>\n
It feels so good to be running again. \u00a0To be running pain free, I might add! \u00a0No more pre-run Advil. \u00a0No more post-run Advil. \u00a0Advil was my BFF.<\/p>\n
I cried a little bit this morning. \u00a0My Ultra running buddy is still out there, as I write, running. \u00a0I should be there running with him. \u00a0I missed my race. \u00a0Never, ever have I missed a race.<\/p>\n
BUT~I was able to run further than a 10K this morning! \u00a0That is remarkable! \u00a0One week ago today, I tried out the leg, for the first time, with a 1.50 mile test run. \u00a0To see how the leg would re-act. \u00a0It was fine with the idea of running again! \u00a0So, run I have, until this morning I was able to cover a respectable distance. \u00a0The distance is nothing compared to the miles I had been covering before the injury, but I’ll take it!<\/p>\n
Yes, this morning I had a little pity party for myself. \u00a0I can still tear up pretty easily if I dwell on it, so I do not allow myself to dwell on it~instead I chose to think about the ability I had this morning to cover some lovely back roads in Starkville, Mississippi with MFH (My Favorite Husband) and the other people in my running group. \u00a0I chose to remember the smiles and the “Welcome back’s” I received from my running friends.<\/p>\n
I could chose to be really, really blue but I am not. \u00a0I chose to focus on the positives. \u00a0And besides, who likes to cry? \u00a0It messes up my make up and gives me a headache. \u00a0My eyes get all puffy…..Nope. \u00a0Positive thoughts only allowed in the Howard household today!<\/p>\n
