Dirt!<\/p>\n
My outdoor chickens get so excited when I bring them a tub full of fresh top soil. \u00a0They love to roll in it. \u00a0They love to pick out the small pieces of pebbles in it. \u00a0They fight over how many of them will fit into the tub of top soil at one time. \u00a0They love dirt!<\/p>\n
Today, I purchased two brand new bags of top soil. \u00a0Just for the chickens.<\/p>\n
The baby chickens have been trying to roll in the Aspen shavings on the floor of the back room~just like my outdoor chickens roll in the top soil in the tub. \u00a0I decided today was the day. \u00a0Today was the day I would introduce the baby chickens to their very own tub of dirt.<\/p>\n
First, I took the outdoor chickens their tub of top soil.<\/p>\n
Their reaction?<\/p>\n
“Goodie!”<\/p>\n
Three chickens promptly tried to fit into the tub and a fight commenced. \u00a0All was well.<\/p>\n
I took a small aluminum roaster in for the baby chickens and put a little bit of top soil into it.<\/p>\n
Their reaction? \u00a0They were afraid.<\/p>\n
Chickens.<\/p>\n
Then the were very, very curious. \u00a0They began to peep. \u00a0(They still do not cluck.)
\n“What is that!?”<\/p>\n
“Is it good to eat!?”<\/p>\n
“You go and find out what it is.”<\/p>\n
“No way! \u00a0You go!!!!”<\/p>\n
They have finally gotten up enough nerve to stand in the dirt. \u00a0I think that is a far as they are going to get today. \u00a0The sun is getting low and soon it will be “Bedtime for Birdies.”<\/p>\n
