{"id":2179,"date":"2014-01-22T15:30:40","date_gmt":"2014-01-22T21:30:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?p=2179"},"modified":"2014-01-22T15:30:40","modified_gmt":"2014-01-22T21:30:40","slug":"happy-birthday-chickens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?p=2179","title":{"rendered":"Happy Birthday, Chickens!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s Run: \u00a0Crutches&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Today my baby chickens turn seven weeks old. \u00a0They are a joy to have in the house. \u00a0Really!<\/p>\n<p>If you have not figured out by now, I am an animal lover. \u00a0I enjoy about every animal I have ever met, babysat or owned.<\/p>\n<p>I was given my first dog, Doodle, when I was 4(?) years old. \u00a0Our neighbor came over with this adorable Cocker Spaniel\/Dachshund mix puppy. \u00a0She (our neighbor) called the puppy &#8220;Doo-Doo.&#8221; \u00a0She said that every little girl needed a dog. \u00a0Of course she was right!<\/p>\n<p>My mom promptly changed the dogs name to Doodle because she stated that she would not stand out on the porch calling, &#8220;Here, Doo-doo!&#8221; \u00a0Doodle just sounded better. \u00a0She was a great dog. \u00a0The best.<\/p>\n<p>Doodle would ride on my tricycle with me. \u00a0She would ride in my wagon. \u00a0She could fit in the bed of my toy dump truck and would ride there, too! \u00a0She loved to ride!<\/p>\n<p>I have progressed from dogs to cats, to horses, back to dogs, (we did all the rodents when the kids were little), back to cats and dogs, and now we have chickens added to the mix!<\/p>\n<p>Chickens are awesome! \u00a0The do take a bit of work but they are so much fun! \u00a0They kinda pay their own way by laying eggs, too. \u00a0My hens are starting to get a little old to be laying reliably so I got some baby chicks a week ago. \u00a0They are seven weeks old now.<\/p>\n<p>Those baby chickens are soooo funny! \u00a0They talk a lot! \u00a0The little stinkers can fly! \u00a0That is a little inconvenient to have a chicken fly in the house but they don&#8217;t do it often.<\/p>\n<p>The baby chickens are inquisitive! \u00a0Snoopy.<\/p>\n<p>In all their peeping, these are the things you can hear them saying to you:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Whatcha, doing?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Is that something I can eat?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Do I need to be concerned about the cats?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I trust you to take care of me.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I am loving the baby chicken stage. \u00a0Before, I have always purchased my birds as adults. \u00a0This babyhood thing is a first. \u00a0My house does smell a bit (like a barn~ugh!) and I will be happy when they can live outdoors but this has been a blast!<\/p>\n<p>They are still getting their feathers and with the extreme cold, it is too much for them to be outside. \u00a0So, the back room it is. \u00a0They are sharing that room with the bunny we are babysitting. \u00a0It is working out fine.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a pic of one of my funny, frizzly faces chicks. \u00a0They look adorable when they are getting all their feathers~one of those, they are so ugly they are cute stages.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?attachment_id=2180\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2180\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2180\" alt=\"IMG_20140122_141635_695\" src=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_20140122_141635_695.jpg\" width=\"3264\" height=\"1836\" srcset=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_20140122_141635_695.jpg 3264w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_20140122_141635_695-300x168.jpg 300w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_20140122_141635_695-1024x576.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_20140122_141635_695-500x281.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 3264px) 100vw, 3264px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s Run: \u00a0Crutches&#8230; Today my baby chickens turn seven weeks old. \u00a0They are a joy to have in the house. \u00a0Really!
