Today’s Run: \u00a0Crutches<\/p>\n
I’ve gone a done it this time!<\/p>\n
Now bear in mind I do not find out specifics until next week, but it looks like I have a stress fracture in my femur.<\/p>\n
That stress fracture explains the pain in my thigh. \u00a0It explains the blisters. \u00a0It explains why my pace is dropping off dramatically. \u00a0It explains it all.<\/p>\n
On Christmas Day, I was scheduled to run 24 miles. \u00a0I did it! \u00a0It was an awesome run! \u00a0I did it in record time. My leg really started aching during that run but, well, 24 miles…that is to be expected. \u00a0Right!?!<\/p>\n
MFH (My Favorite Husband) set out water stops along my route. \u00a0He is a keeper, he is. \u00a0At the water stops, he put out Advil! What a lifesaver! \u00a0I kept popping the Advil at each water stop and the dull ache subsided.<\/p>\n
That evening my leg hurt like, well, it hurt.<\/p>\n
Ever since Christmas, I have been popping Advil, four at a time, all day long. \u00a0Before, During and After a run. \u00a0Advil is my friend. \u00a0Kinda. \u00a0I take too much of it and I know it.<\/p>\n
So, Thursday, I quit taking the Advil.<\/p>\n
Ouch!!! \u00a0Something is seriously wrong here!!!<\/p>\n
Finally, It hit me. \u00a0Duh. \u00a0Classic Femoral Stress Fracture. \u00a0Treatment. \u00a0Crutches. \u00a0Dr. Appointment pending for Monday.<\/p>\n
I am on crutches now. \u00a0Getting ahead of the curve. \u00a0The MRI to know for sure will be Tues\/Wed and then I will find out the “rest of the story.”<\/p>\n
So, today, I did not run. \u00a0It about killed me to go to the running group and watch everybody head on out the door for the 13 miler I was planning on doing, but I stayed put.<\/p>\n
Yes, I really went and did it this time. \u00a0No more Advil. \u00a0No more running (for 4-6 weeks or so). \u00a0I had to kiss my Ultra (March 1) good-bye until next year.<\/p>\n
BUT~~~I am registered for a 10K in MAY!!! \u00a0So, if I am careful and behave, I might me ready for that race! \u00a0That would be cool!!! \u00a0Add on to that my Fall Marathon and few other races tossed into the mix for grins. \u00a0It will be just fine.<\/p>\n
