Today’s Run: \u00a0Rest Day<\/p>\n
Two days ago, I told you how my husband and I had been granted approval to own and operate a Low-Powered FM radio station. \u00a0This radio station was to be utilized by our Non-Profit Organization, Classic Book Radio Corporation.<\/p>\n
Our next step, now that we had gained the FCC’s approval was to decide on a call sign for the radio station. \u00a0Seeing as both my husband and myself are Amateur Radio operators (ham radio people) we are no slouches when it comes to figuring out a vanity call sign.<\/p>\n
My husband got his vanity call sign when we lived in Estes Park, Colorado. \u00a0His call sign is w0ep. \u00a0The “W” means it is a vanity sign, the 0 (zero) shows it is a call sign from Colorado, and the EP just happened to be the initials for the town in which we lived: \u00a0Estes Park. \u00a0Nice!<\/p>\n
My call sign is W5MSH. \u00a0The “W” again showing it is a vanity call sign. \u00a0The 5 shows that it is from Mississippi and the MSH those are my initials! \u00a0Tidy. \u00a0Easy to remember.<\/p>\n
Now, we get to pick out a call sign for our radio station. \u00a0We looked at WRTM (“W”, Read To Me), WRTY (“W” Read To You) \u00a0WRTU (“W” Read To U). \u00a0Hmmm…They are all already taken! \u00a0Bother. \u00a0We can gain permission from these stations to borrow their call sign if we put an LP after the sign. \u00a0The LP would show that we are a Low Power station. \u00a0Not to be confused with the “mother” station.<\/p>\n
I had cracked a joke in that blog post that we should look into WMFH (“W” My Favorite Husband). \u00a0Well, guess what. \u00a0There are no WMFH stations! \u00a0HA! \u00a0I think we are going to try to apply for that call sign!!! \u00a0HA! \u00a0Is not that the funniest thing!?!<\/p>\n
My husband is concerned that WMFH may be a bit too personal of a call sign. \u00a0I told him I would swear you to secrecy…after you were done laughing, that is! \u00a0It is not carved in stone as of yet, but I thought you might get a chuckle out of that.<\/p>\n
